1 in 4 risk with nuchal measurement of 4.1. I can't believe this is happening...

says it all really. had cvs later this afternoon and have to wait five working days for results. I can't see how results can be anything but bad news, given measurement (at 11.5 wks)

suppose I'm posting on here to see if anyone can give me some hope. i obsessed so much about risk factors with my daughter and didn;t give it much thought this time, even tho I'll be 40 next year. feeling sick and numb..

Wow that's rough news. I'm sorry to hear you're so worried, you must be feeling shattered. Was anyone with you and have you been able to talk about how you're feeling?

cthea · 12/11/2008 19:19

Lindso - the US measurement was a screening test, not diagnostic. Of course it doesn't mean bad news necessarily, that's why you go on to a diagnostic test, like the CVS. There is hope. Good luck. I thought the initial results would come in sooner (2 days?)

It's horrible, I know exactly what you are going through, having been there myself, but of course there is hope! Did you have the combined blood tests or just the nuchal measurement?

Chooster · 12/11/2008 20:28

Sorry this is happening for you Lindso. My second DS had a much higher nuchal measurement and I was told that there are sometimes cases where the fluid just disappears over the course of the pregnancy or in one case the midwife told me of a baby in her care who had an abnormal nuchal measurement up until birth and was perfectly fine. I dont want to mislead you as these are not common cases but I just wanted to mention it as it can happen. Although it feels like it, it may not be anything to worry about.

thanks.

just had the nuchal scan rather than combined as the risk just from this was significant. five working days seems a lifetime but i know people go through much worse. pregnancy nausea also terrible, god I am feeling sorry for myself!

If it helps at all I had the blood tests too and they alone came back with a one in 6 risk BUT combined with my nuchal scan that became 1 in 250 - I too went through the horrible experience of CVS and waiting for results and everything turned out fine. There would in all likelihood have been a similar result for you if both tests had been done so try not to get too obsessed with the 1 in 4 number and just try and be positive - the five days will feel like forever but you getting stressed won't do you or the (probably perfectly healthy) baby any good. Good luck, will be thinking of you so let us know how things turn out, there will be plenty of support for you here either way.

And even if it is 1 in 4 there's still as 75% chance that everything will be fine. Hang in there.
