Could have an innocent reason, could be serious. If I were you, would phone out of hours GP.

lisad123 · 10/11/2008 19:40

phone gp now

nhs direct said I should go to A&E and it wasnt worth ringing out of hours doctor as they wouldnt be able to do anything ,but Telford hospital isn`t up too much.

So I can`t face sitting there all night waiting I will leave it to the morning. Thanks for replies

Hope it's nothing serious, make sure you get checked out

lisad123 · 10/11/2008 20:04

you really should go in, maybe a clot. please go

HeadFairy · 10/11/2008 20:06

How much blood was it? I used to cough my throat raw until it bled when I had recurrent tonsilitis. Have you had a cold recently? Could the warm water have relaxed damaged blood vessels in your throat making them bleed a bit?

brookeslay · 10/11/2008 20:18

Ive had no cough and i didnt cough before spitting out the blood if I did cough i would have put it down to a ruptured a blood vessel but it was more spit and then ohhhh !!!

Then I googled it and someone said their sister had placenta ripening which scares you im thinking it may be innocent atm. I hate hospitals at the best of times too so at least if im not worrying about getting to bed as i need my sleep atm the moment.

Sorry if I'm being dim but how does something associated with your placenta come out your mouth? Or am I missing something?

I used to get nosebleeds when I got in a hot bath, due to blood vessels expanding. Possibly this is what's happened to you?

lulumama · 10/11/2008 21:03

blood from your placenta would come out of your vagina, not your mouth, have never heard of placenta ripening and have worked in childbirth for 2 years ! what is it?

more likely you are poorly, but couging up blood is not normal and i would see a GP urgently

AnarchyAunt · 10/11/2008 21:05

Do you mean rupturing??

Even if so, the blood would not come out of your mouth. You need to get it checked ASAP.

HeadFairy · 10/11/2008 21:05

Phew lulumama, I thought I was going mad!

lulumama · 10/11/2008 21:15

an abruption usually entails sharp abdominal pain and bright red bleeding from teh vagina. any blood loss from the vagina in pregnancy needs checking, placental blood cannot get out of your mouth

still reckon gps, asap. it is not right

I was very sick with DS1 and the repeated retching caused me to cough up blood. I called GP, who tried to be sympathetic, but basically said, your womb is not connected to your mouth you stupid woman

He said it would only be a problem if I was losing so much blood, the blood loss itself could be dangerous (mine was a bit of pink saliva really ) but if it was repeated I should go to see him for my peace of mind.

Snaf · 10/11/2008 21:25

The increased blood volume when you're pg can mean that sometimes you bleed more easily from small vessels - lots of women get nosebleeds, etc. Are you sure it's not from bleeding gums? Especially if you've been in a warm bath it's possible that it's just a couple of burst blood vessels. It's not from your placenta - I can say that with reasonable certainty

However, if it happens again you need to see your GP.

bikerunski · 10/11/2008 21:26

I vomitted blood at 8 weeks. Was terrified. NHS direct sent me to A&E. It was innocent - had torn throat by retching and vomiting.

Snaf · 10/11/2008 21:29

Was it an actual clot or more a sort of streaky/spittley type thing?
