35 and a half weeks - are these contractions?

With DD I was induced so I have no idea what the start of labour might feel like.

Yesterday I had a show.

Just over an hour ago I started getting intense braxton hicks. Not painful just very hard tightenings at the top of my bump.

For the last 45 mins they have been accompanied by period pain at the bottom of my bump, down low. The tightenings with pain only last about 15 seconds and then pass. They come every 4-7 minutes and in between I get tightenings with no pain.

That is it. No other pain. No upset tummy. My belly button has suddenly popped out (it has never done that before).

Are they just bad BHs or should I call the ward?

My son was born at 36 weeks and had a few breathing difficulties but was absolutely fine after 24 hours. You are pretty far along so I wouldn't be too worried. But as has been said - do call asap - as they could give you something to delay labour.

dinny · 09/11/2008 20:09

yep, think every single day counts

main thing for me was the feeding probs

great labour though (compared to hefty full-term ds!)

Mum1369 · 09/11/2008 20:09

Have you called yet ?

dinny · 09/11/2008 20:10

God, I wish I'd had MN when I had dd

let us know what's happening Artichokes!

are you at QC?

LackaDAISYcal · 09/11/2008 20:15

Call the delivery suite; for reassurance if nothing else, but I'm sure they'll want to see you in for some monitoring at the very least.

I was induced with DS and after three doses of prostin was contracting according to the CTG, but the MW decided that as I couldn't feel them then I wasn't in labour. After waters went I was examined and was at 5cms.......they don't seem to factor in the differences in pain thrshold from one person to the next! Anyway, what I'm trying to say in a rambly way is that you may just be good at coping with the pain!

artichokes · 09/11/2008 20:22

DoNot - lol, yes, it was me having a panic a few weeks back. that is why i am so sure this is nothing. i am going to be uber embarrassed if i become known as the woman who had 99 false labour threads!

Dinny - yes I am at QC. how did you guess??

Well I called. They said to come in to be checked over.

DH's brother has agreed to come and sit with DD. I would never usually entertain the idea of that man (boy?) being allowed sole care of DD but she is sleeping so I guess it will be OK. We are going to go as soon as he arrives and I have had my dinner (see? if I was in labour I wouldn't want a whole bowl of bolognaise would I??).

ah, just from our thread the other week about Westfield....

btw, I had a massive dinner 4 hours before ds was born

DoNotAsfinishedXmasshopping · 09/11/2008 20:31

Artichokes....last time you had not had a show.

That makes a whole lot of difference.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 09/11/2008 20:39

I have to go but good luck artichokes! I'll check for news later/tomorrow.

pixsix · 09/11/2008 20:40

thread in chat for DAISY,

artichokes · 10/11/2008 10:05

Morning

Thanks for all your support last night.

It turns out I have a UTI and was dehydrated, both of which can apparantly trigger contractions. The contractions showed quite strongly on the monitor but my cervix was still closed. The head is fully engaged though.

I am on antibiotics and the conrtactions have eased although I am still pretty uncomfortable. The hosptial said that if I do start to dilate they wll let the baby come at this stage and will not give me steroids or anything. So I guess whatever will be, will be.

Thanks again for the support.

Whose beting I will still be here in 6 weeks, complaining about being overdue and with another 10 false labour threads under my belt ?

Thank goodness you went in then, I hope that the meds kick in and you have another couple of weeks before the baby arrives. (Don't know if that is a good thing to wish you or not, I remember the last few weeks of pregnancy being pretty fed up).

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 10/11/2008 12:13

Glad you're OK. I had a UTI when DD was born - I'd been telling the doc/MW/anyone who would listen for ages that there was a problem, but they just kept saying "women do need the toilet a lot in late pregnancy" and just a few days before DD was born I finally got some ABs. The hospital told me in the morning when I went in for a check because I had pains etc that it was all due to the UTI, not labour. Later (having proved them wrong and had a baby) I was told that the UTI could have actually been what triggered the prem labour.

Hope your last weeks go relatively uneventfully and all comes out well in the end

LackaDAISYcal · 10/11/2008 12:59

Phew, hope you feel better soon artichokes and baby stays put for a few more weeks at least

Will look out for your birth thread when it happens

belgo · 10/11/2008 13:01

artichokes - the same thing happened to me with my first baby, contrations at 34 weeks due to a UTI. I was treated with antibiotics and she was born at just over 40 weeks.

dinny · 10/11/2008 14:42

ooh, good news - I think an undetected UTI might have been what triggered dd's labour actually

DoNotAsfinishedXmasshopping · 10/11/2008 18:11

Glad you are (essentially) well.

Another week though and you can officially stop posting "premature labour" type threads...cos at 37wks you will officially be full term
