Strong pains in tummy/bump

chloemegjess · 08/11/2008 11:37

Hello. I am 16 weeks and my tummy/bump really hurts suddenly. Only for the last half hour but it really, really hurts. I am in tears in pain. What do you all think I should do? I haven't been doing much this morning, mainly been on the pc so haven't over done it or anything.

I am a bit worried it could be the baby?

i would ring the midwife if possible or hospital sure it is fine if you are worried

belgo · 08/11/2008 11:49

yes you need to speak to your maternity ward or midwife.

chloemegjess · 08/11/2008 11:54

What do you think they will do? I don't have the number for a midwife so it would have to be the maternity ward

Anybody else? I am quite worried but feel a bit of a drama queen to phone the hospital on a saturday? I am one that hates to bother people!

definitely call the doctor. not a drama queen. Also try moving around a bit and make sure you aren't dehydrated/its not constipation.

chloemegjess · 08/11/2008 12:10

DH making me some toast now as I haven't eaten much so seeing if that helps. I don't feel hungry but toast shouldn't hurt and a big glass of water.

If the pain is ever strong enough to cause you to be in tears, it needs to be checked out asap. I may not be pregnancy-related, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Denny185 · 08/11/2008 12:23

Hospitals dont keep Mon-Fri 9-5 hours they really wont mind you contacting them Sat/Sun day or night. Better to be a 'drama queen' and speak to someone, they may reassure u over the phone but more likely someone will want to give you a check over.

JennysMummy · 08/11/2008 12:23

That was meant to be "it may not be pregnancy-related".. not I!

chloemegjess · 08/11/2008 12:27

Do you think it may be better to just pop down rather than phone? It is only 5 mins away? Or do they prefer you to phone first?

Loooking in my folder, I have numbers for:

hospital switchboard
appointments
anitinatal clinic
Fetal assesment unit
labour ward dirct line
ambulance service
ulltrasound

These are all the numbers. Which is the one I ring?

OP posts:
lizzie9442 · 08/11/2008 12:41

probably the antinatal clinic but it might not be open so you might have to ring the labour ward that is who I have rung before and they will either give you advice over the phone or tell you to come in and they will check you over. hope this helps

chloemegjess · 08/11/2008 12:43

Thanks. I was at a different hospital last time so this one is all new to us so don't know how it works!

hi chloemegjess,

yes, I'd phone labour ward/delivery suite and you will be able to speak to mw

don't expect antenatal ward open today

hope all is OK, could be trapped wind? have you got on all fours to try and release it a bit maybe?

chloemegjess · 08/11/2008 12:52

Off to phone now. I hate phoning! I am such a wimp! lol

fourlittlefeet · 08/11/2008 12:53

try a warm bath too, but I'd give them a call first, just in case.

chloemegjess · 08/11/2008 13:02

Just called, and they said to come down to A&E. Bit worried we are going to sit there for hours. My daughter is 10 months old and unless i want to go on my own then I need to bring DD - 10 months.

I was hoping they would say to come to the antenatal ward or something so at least we wouldn't need to sit in the waiting room for so long.

Well got to give DD lunch now and will go after. DH is moaning because he wanted to watch the football

Tell you dh not to be ridiculous! Hope everything's ok. Let us know.

chloemegjess · 08/11/2008 16:03

Well we went to the hospital but they weren't very helpfull. She asked me a few questions and felt my tummy and then said she is sure I will be fine. I would have liked her to listen to the babys heat beat or something?

chunkychips · 08/11/2008 16:07

not very helpful, did they do any blood/urine tests? Has the pain gone? Could it be wind, trapped wind can be very painful. I would still call midwife on Monday.

chloemegjess · 08/11/2008 16:39

No bloods or urine tests done. I am going to see midwife on monday so hopefully they will help. The pain is better but not gone. Have had a couple of dizzy spells too. She said as I was not bleeding I don't need any further examination

cholemegjess same happend to me and it was the position of the baby, was so painful, passed after about 24 hrs. paracetamol and hot water bottle helped

broodymom · 08/11/2008 21:27

1'm 17 weeks today and have had bad almost stretching sort of ligament pains in my side high up and low down. also a lot of twinges in my groin area but im not feeling worried about them particularly (sp!) i think it is just the uterus growing, although i am not showing at all i suspect it wont be long!

chloemegjess · 08/11/2008 23:59

Lucky you not showing broody! I look like I am due in the next few weeks! LOL. I think the fact my DD was only 6 months old meant my tummy was so used to being a bump it grew supper fast!
