Gestational Diabetes

I'm slightly worried I have gestational diabetes. About 6 weeks ago I had raised blood sugar when I had my regular blood test. Then I had to have a fasting blood test which came back as normal. So I went on my merry way quite happy. Until I saw my consultant on Monday and he said I have Ketones in my urine but didn't really say anything else.
I'm really really thirsty all the time which I didn't think about until I read it can be a symptom of GD, also very tired but that could be PG related.

I've made an appointment to see my MW for tomorrow morning as I am a bit worried.

I'm 35 weeks this Friday and worried about various things, like the birth as a friend of mine had GD and had an elec CS due to baby's size and if it means I would have to inject for the rest of my pregnancy(terrified of needles)

Can anyone just give me a bit of advice please?

Even if it is GD they would try diet, then Metformin in various doses before it would necessarily be insulin dependant.

Thats nice to hear. I think thats what I was most worried about.

Thanks

ketones can be a sign that you are not eating and drinking enough. They tell us that the body has started to use it's own fat for energy.

Fairly common in pg if tyou have been sick, off food.

See my consultant said the opposite. He said if I had just eaten or had a bigger appetite than normal that could have caused it. But on here and in a book I have it says if you don't eat enough it could cause them. Which is why I have made a MW appointment as I'm confused.

ketones def sign of body using excess fat etc. at cons. Was he obs lol?

I am a doula and my lady in labour the other day had them, Mw encouraged her to eat. i had them at beg of pg as was so sick.

He isn't very receptive(might not be right word). He just kinda sits at his desk and lets his nurse do everything Umming and Arring every now and again.

he sounds a barrel of laughs. Ask your mw if you are worried, i'm sure she'll know more about it.

If you do develop GD, as other poster said, would prob be managed with diet, especially at this stage.

hope it goes well for you.
