Bit of a stab in the dark - anyone else around 20 wks with an anterior placenta (the one at the front)?

It's just that I'm really not feeling much movement still and 21 weeks now.

Get a feeling like bubbles or skipping heartbeat (you know when you get a twitch on your eyelid when you're tired) at the bottom of bump but nothing anywhere else and not very frequently. Usually after I've had a drink of water.

Yesterday hardly felt anything and was looking out for it too.

Really want to know what others are feeling with the same situation. Tell me even if you are getting kicked all over and it feels really strong! I won't panic, honest...

This is my first and 20 wk scan was fine.

With DD (my 2nd) I had her placenta on the front, but with DS (my first), his was on the back.

The difference in movement was quite a lot at 20 weeks. I felt DS a lot, but DD much less. However, as your baby gets bigger and stronger, you'll probably feel him/her more even though the placenta in on the front. By the end, I felt DD a lot. Usually when they are a little bigger you can make them move somehow - I put my palms on my bump and it would make them move, different things work for different people.

MrsKing · 03/11/2008 18:14

My placenta is anterior and although I have felt baby for quite a few weeks but they tend to be movements at the side, not the front and not very strong or frequent. I am 21 weeks too and think Crokky is right as baby gets bigger you will feel more.

I was reassured by my midwife and sonographer (at 20 wk scan) that this is perfectly normal with anterior placenta. Can you check with midwife to put your mind at rest?

TheInvisibleHand · 03/11/2008 18:59

Had anterior placenta with DD - didn't really feel movement till 22-23 weeks or so. 31 weeks pg this time round, again with anterior placenta and felt things earlier, maybe 16 weeks or so, but as MrsKing says, more to the side. But definitely feeling more of this LO than my DD - maybe partly down to exactly where placenta is as well as being 2nd.

scorpio1 · 03/11/2008 19:01

I had one, didn't feel a proper kick until about 23 weeks

WhatSheSaid · 03/11/2008 19:06

Not pg at mo but had anterior placenta with dd and kicks were v v faint - a bit like the bubbles you mentioned. Didn't get stronger till quite a lot later (can't remember when...maybe third trimester?). The pg all went well and dd had her first birthday yesterday! Congrats on your pg.

I had this with DD and I didn't really feel anything properly until about 22 weeks and then it was only v slight movements.

MrsMattie · 03/11/2008 21:30

I had an anterior placenta with my first pregnancy and didn't feel kicks as early or as strongly as I have done with this pregnancy (almost 37 weeks with no.2, posterior placenta this time).

trixiethepixie · 04/11/2008 00:38

Had anterior placenta with ds and didn't feel much til about the third trimester. the odd twich or stomach jump before that. Enjoy because when the time comes you will be kicked and booted every shape.

Millie26 · 04/11/2008 10:46

Hey thanks so much everyone - sounds like she's alright in there!

Feel a bit sad as a few people have said their partner couldnt feel anything kazbeth and would love him to be able to feel her kick his back in bed like some people say they can.

V reassured by this thread, I should stop worrying so much!

thanks again x

am pregnant with 3rd dc and just had anomaly scan and was shocked to be told that i have a anterior placenta as have felt loads of movement, but all to one side! am 20 weeks today and am sure my other 2 were nowhere near as active at this stage!

jlh69 · 04/11/2008 13:59

Millie- Don't worry. He will def be able to her and see it when it is kicking like a footballer at 3 in the morning! Arms and legs will be poking out all over the space. It's very weird!

jlh69 · 04/11/2008 14:00

'her' should 'read' feel- am going mad!

Kalikaroo · 05/11/2008 08:58

Thank you so much for posting this thread!!! I've been getting completely paranoid recently because I'm 18+5 weeks (1st DC) with an anterior placenta and have felt nothing so far. I'm so glad that it's normal and that other people have had this too!! Don't get my next scan until the 24th Nov.

Whew......

Kiwifruit · 06/11/2008 00:33

I'm 33 weeks with DC2 and anterior placenta. Didn't feel much movement until 25 weeks, but seems to be making up for it now (although mostly at the side - good to hear others have the same thing). Enjoy the peaceful sleep while you can !

titchy77 · 06/11/2008 09:21

I'm 20 weeks and just had my scan and have the same thing, when the midwife scanned me (she was training to do ultrasound) she described it as anterior, low lying but the scanning lady supervising her said that if it is not covering the cervix then they now class it as high anterior, not low lying.
I'm hoping it will move up, what are the chances of this happening? does anyone know? This is my 3 dc and I have been very paranoid as have felt the other 2 quite early on, but have only just startd feeling this one, although its mostly in my side!

ceedub · 06/11/2008 11:32

Hi, I'm 23 weeks, and have a low-lying anterior placenta. Took about 21 weeks before I could feel anything, but she's making up for lost time! Dp now also able to feel the odd kick as well, so hang in there - soon you'll be kept awake by a kick-boxing bean like the rest of us

Yesterday, seemed quite a good day for thumping me so hopefully it will just get more obvious.

Am starting to realise from all you other ladies that perhaps I should be cherishing this time instead of cursing it - being kept awake and being jabbed in the ribs doesnt sound great!

It's funny how easy it is to get the impression that you should be feeling loads by about 17 weeks when lots of people really dont.

dan39 · 06/11/2008 14:06

You are right millie there is lots of peer pressure about this. I didn't really feel anything til 23/24 weeks and was paranoid - but the get me thru I had regular visits to my lovely GP who let me listen to the hb which helped - for those who are anxious this is worth a try with GP or mw?

And for the record now that it has started it does actually hurt quite a lot!! Jabbing rather than gentle nudges!

misdee · 06/11/2008 14:09

placenta is anterior. 4th pregnancy. i felt kicks very very late this time. with previous i felt definate movement at 16/17 weeks.
