To throw or not to throw...

Sorry if this seems a bit self-indulgent, but it's a question that's plaqued me when pregnant with dds, and in my current pregnancy (6 weeks). Had HG with dd1 and dd3, 'normal' sickness with dd2. With this pregnancy nausea started at 5 weeks, and currently at 6 weeks it's progressed into vomiting every hour or so .
Snacking etc helped last week, but not now. The only thing that relieves it for half an hour or so is actually being sick. Now I could easily be sick, but so far today have managed to breath through it and get through.
My question is, is it better for me to actually go and be sick, or is there some benefit in doing my upmost to avoid it? I'm attempting lunch soon, so better to 'start afresh' than to eat then be sick anyway?
I have an acupuncture appointment booked for Sat, then GP Monday, but just curious as to what the mumsnet consensus was .

I don't know Diege but someone might...keeping it bumped for you, you poor thing!

(have heard good things about acupuncture btw - I had HG twice too, didn't try it but want to next time)

Thanks gravy! Not sure what/who FA is?
I am pinning all my hopes on acupuncture, though fear that because acuPRESSURE didn't work (ie, those wretched bands)that acupuncture won't. Think they stimulate sane point?

Do whatever makes you feel better. Sometimes I felt better not being sick and the nausea sort of passes. However othertimes if I sneeze or cough I cant help but be sick. I always feel better after being sick but it depends how you feel.

nickytwooootimes · 29/10/2008 14:04

Vomit is REALLY bad for you teeth. ANd your electrolyte balance, but only when v. frequent.

WorzselMummage · 29/10/2008 14:08

I used to stick my fingers down my throat a lot when i was Pg with DD, its was the only thing that made me feel better.

This time i've been able to breath through it but its a bit of a pain in the arse, sometimes i wish i could just get it out an over and done with.

hambo · 29/10/2008 14:12

I had the worst 'morning' (ALL DAY) sickness and was most worried about my teeth. Dentist told me to not brush but use a mouthwash. I ended up on anti vomit pills and I felt loads worse when I stopped being sick but just felt RANK beyond belief. But I think you need to try to not be sick for your teeth, and also to try to keep some food and water inside you.

I lost nearly a stone in 9 days! First time in my life I was not happy about getting skinny!

GoodGravytrain · 29/10/2008 14:20

Flight if that helps. Well, never mind, i know who you are...

GoodGravytrain · 29/10/2008 14:21

I didn't find the bands helped much either but apparently tis a very near miss as to whether you have them on right

acupuncture is done by a professional and they ought to get the right place, lol...let us know how you go, I'm really interested in this.

Hope it works for you!

Diege · 29/10/2008 14:27

Oh go on Gravy, another clue!! .
I have the excess saliva thing too, and someone mentioned that was your body's way of protecting the teeth?
Have avoided being sick so far today, but feel absolutely wretched. Have to admit to the old fingers down the throat thing too WORSZEL .
I am counting days until acupuncture, though am sceptical.

I used to find (and this is a bit grim - sorry ) that if i went and locked myself in the toilet for 10 minutes as soon as i got up and did it and managed to get out all the foam and vileness that there is in your stomach first thing in the morning that i'd feel a lot better all day, having a couple of glugs of water can make this process less painfull.

I had to do it till i was about 25 weeks with dd and then it tailed off although i was still sick half way though every meal which is so depressing

Diege · 29/10/2008 14:51

Ah WORZSEL, that's what I did when pregnant with dds. Straight to bathroom first thing, wodge of loo roll between legs (don't ask [blush) fingers down throat, THEN would start the old ginger biscuit malarky after bile and gunk was gone. This time I'm doing things by the book and taking biscuits to bed to with me for first thing, but may well try my old method tomorrow. Oh the things I have to look forward to...

for me not throwing is better. My MS is definitely related to blood sugar level - so keeping something down makes me feel slightly better. I do have to work hard on distraction not to be sick tho'!

Mine wasn't as bad as yours sounds tho' .....
am nearly 10 weeks now and not as sick as often as I was at 6 weeks.

early morning chuck is usually brought on by DH using his deodorant..... eeek

Diege · 29/10/2008 15:27

LOL REDFLIPFLOPS, I remember banning spray deodorant from bathroom when pregnant with dd1. Have just discovered some stinky stilton in fridge, so dh is in for it when he gets in...
On the blood sugar thing, I try and eat something immediately after being sick, but it never feels quite the same digestion-wise as when I manage to keep things down fullstop.
