Any suggestions for pre-cooks meals that freeze well?

Hi All,

Thinking about getting organised and starting to make and freeze dinners / meals for the early days after "bump" has become "baby".

Does anyone have any suggestions of meals that freeze well? I can only think of bolognaise, chilli and stew.

Lasagne
Shepherd's Pie
Cottage Pie
Fisherman's Pie
Risotto (as long as you don't overcook it when defrosting)

I have been thinking about this too...

So here goes:
Rice (to go with other things)
Fish pie
home-made burgers
curry
soup
casserole - different types(could also be classed as stew I suppose!)

I can't think of any more but there must be loads..... let's hope some more ideas come in soon!

Happy cooking

How long have you got to go?

pastry case freezes well too can be used to make a tasty quiche (a few eggs, a few dices of ham, some fresh cream and hop in the oven!)
other than that, i have (will have) soups and curries and ratatouille in my freezer

The same question came up when I was pg. DS is now 6 weeks old and we are just coming to the end of the super-stocked freezer. I cooked and froze:

Veg lasagna
Veg pasta sauce
Pasta Bake
Macaroni cheese
Lentil soup
Pea soup
Risotto
Veg crumble
Fruit crumble
Cheese scones
Fruit scones
Curry
Banana muffins

I also bought and froze
Fish pie
Quiche
Fish Fingers
Chelsea buns
Sausages (veg and meat)

And in my store cupboard I got in lots of
Pesto
Cereal
Part baked bread (as freezer was now full of other stuff)
UHT milk
Soya milk (but that's just me)
Tea bags and coffee!
Cous cous (cooks v quickly)
Big blocks of cheddar (actually this was in fridge of course, but lasts for several weeks).

Glad I gpot it together when I did (thanks to insitance of my SIL) as DS was 2 weeks early!

Don't forget baked beans aswell. And UHT milk - even when the nearest shop is only at the top of the road, it can still take you all day not to get there!

Good question and the lists are very helpful!

Any sort of pasta sauce, with veg or with meat. Defrosts in the pan whilst the pasta cooks.

Another good one is friut crumbles. Also you could have packet frozen fruit and some packet crumble mixes in cupboard, depending on how 'wholesome' you are feeling about making everything?! I think puddings are very important myself so intend to cover all the bases with tinnned custard too!!

I'm about to do pistachio choc fudge to stick in the freezer- Nigella express! Great to keep in the freezer for any visitors....

zoejeanne · 23/10/2008 15:36

Hi emma! Think we both have the same plan, so I'm glad you asked the question. Most cakes freeze well - before icing them. I intend to have as many sweet things in my freezer as savoury!
