Is it normal to get really horrible restless legs in early pregnancy? Have never had this before and its driving me crazy, keeps me awake at night.

If anyone has any advice I'd be really grateful.

I don't really have any advice, just sympathy! I had this too and it is much more horrible than it sounds, v uncomfortable. It did get better after having the babies but I do still get it from time to time. Would also welcome any advice!

argh, I am 21 weeks and have this too!

this is my third pg and have had it in ALL of them

no tips, so annoying!!! did read it was linked to not enough magnesium...

stripeywoollenhat · 21/10/2008 18:37

i have this, very annoying for dp as well as for me. i don't find anything helps, though i've read that eating bananas is supposed to improve it. roll on january (when small one exits and legs revert to original ownership...)

LadyOfRoffle · 21/10/2008 18:39

Keep them moving as much as you can, footspas can help + clarins tired leg cream.

Dorsetcath · 21/10/2008 19:42

I make my husband massage them every night - he knows I will keep him awake all night kicking otherwise! Had it through 2 pregnancies but it did stop once I delivered.

This is going to sound really weird, and I don't know if its true, but apparently if you put a bar of soap, unwrapped, at your feet while you sleep, it stops this!

moosemama · 21/10/2008 22:57

Me too! The only thing that works for me at night is to get up and walk around for a while, go up and down the stairs and stretch my legs. Works for a while then I have to get up and do it all over again! DH despairs of my constant wriggling and has spent much of this pregnancy decamped to the sofa!

It's great isn't it along with the achey hips that make you turnover every few minutes general insomnia etc etc.

I'd forgotten how much I 'love' being pregnant.

moosemama · 21/10/2008 23:06

Oh yes, I have read that it can be linked to anaemia and if I'm honest I've been a bit forgetful taking my floradix iron supplement recently so maybe there is a link there.

Apparently, the other things it has been linked to are low, magnesium, potassium, calcium and vitamin B6.

Am of to drink a glass of milk and eat a banana now and see if that makes any difference.

Jojay · 21/10/2008 23:16

Yep, I've had it in both my pregnancies too.

I found it was worse when I was tired - I noticed an immediate improvement when I stopped working - and a hot bath helps.

On the bright side, it stopped as soon as I gave birth.

moosemama · 22/10/2008 09:51

Thought I'd report back.

Took my evening dose of Floradix, which of course I'd forgotton. Drank a tumbler of milk and ate a small banana at 11.00 pm. Went to bed at 12.00 and ....

Much better night with practically no restless legs!

Maybe it was the placebo effect (although I didn't really think it would work) but am definitely going to try it again tonight.

Jojay · 22/10/2008 11:53

I'd heard about the calcium thing too, and found that a mug of milky hot choc before bed helped too - long may it last!

read on another thread on here that a fan directed on your legs can really help too.

Never tried it though
