Mishap with Supermarket trolley

OK I'm completely stupid and clumsy - went to supermarket half asleep on the way home. Managed to get trolley stuck and walked into handle (straight into stomach). It didn't really hurt but seemed to go into new stomach flab quite far. I'm 14+3 and a bit worried - thoughts please?

My thoughts are that you just need to watch where you are walking. Oh, and maybe think about reducing flab if you have so much that your trolley gets lost in it,

LynetteScavo · 14/10/2008 19:17

Ah supermarket trollys + pregnancy = nightmare. I think your baby will be fine (lots of fluid around to protect it ) especially if it didn't hurt.

Time to start shopping on line! Manovering a full trolly when heavily pregnant can be hell.

brettgirl2 · 14/10/2008 19:17

Thanks very much for that glad you think it's so funny you insensitive prat

At 3-4 months there is still a lot of 'give' and space for the baby to move around so I wouldn't worry yourself, but I would definately start online shopping. I put my back out when about 6 months trying to steer a heavily loaded trolley, I got so many online deliveries I was on 1st name terms with the driver and once he started delivering nappies he insisted on coming in to meet the baby

cfc · 14/10/2008 20:03

Geepers, she's pregnant you tit. rolls eyes

brettgirl2 · 14/10/2008 20:11

Thanks for nice, reassuring replies. I am normally the slightly neurotic one and hubby sensible one I think what scared me was that he looked worried when I told him. Feel calmer now but might ring MW tomorrow if still worried. I think online shopping might be the way forward, by the time I got there tonight I was practically asleep on my feet.

You should be fine. Mention it to your midwife when you next see her - Are you seeing her this week?

Wait until you get bigger then you will bump into everything!! For some reason I kept burning my bump with the iron! I did it twice, not major just stupid!

ChirpyGhoul · 14/10/2008 20:25

It is DH's to newly pregnant wives jobs to look concerned about anything they aren't sure about. It will get more annoying as time goes on

ChirpyGhoul · 14/10/2008 20:26

( I slammed DD1 in teh fridge door...)

My dp threw an apple at dd by mistake. Bless her - She came out with 2 lines on her forehead - Iron burns and a swollen eye - Apple!! (I do sometimes wonder if it is our fault she came out with those marks!!) Not sure we will tell her that story when shes older - God knows what she would think of us!!

Smithagain · 14/10/2008 20:44

I'm sure your baby will be fine. For what it's worth, I had a car accident when about 20 weeks and some kid kicked a football into me when I was a lot further on. No harm done apart from me feeling very tearful and hormonal.

chocbiscuits · 14/10/2008 21:13

I fell downstairs at 35 weeks and had to get monitored but only because am over 22 weeks and all was fine.
had to have rhesus injection though.

Ebb · 14/10/2008 21:47

I did exactly the same thing at about 7&half months. I am a Nanny and my 5 month old charge in her car seat in one of those trolleys designed for car seats and I couldn't see directly in front of me and rammed into a post in the carpark whacking my bump. I was fine but was a bit paranoid for a while. BAby is well protected though so try not to worry.

I am 24 weeks and squish my bump all the time at my desk at work - I think they are well protected in there with fluid, esp at your stage!

If you need more reassurance talk to your mw tho. And get into the online shopping habit now!!

crokky · 15/10/2008 11:19

OP - baby buried deep inside pelvic bones at this stage, don't worry

MrsMattie · 15/10/2008 11:26

Go and see your midwife and get your mind put at rest. But honestly - you and your baby will more than likely be absolutely fine. I have had a 3 yr old toddler launch himself at me with full force on multiple occasions during this pregnancy, have burnt my stomach with an iron (yes, really! Ironing in bra and pants is a silly thing to do!), and walked straight into the corner of a chest of drawers winding myself severely. All is OK (am 34 weeks pregnant).

tinkisgoingtohaveagirl · 15/10/2008 11:31

hi

i am sure you will be fine

what a great helpful comment from geepers not

PinkTulips · 15/10/2008 11:45

dp belly flopped on dd at 36 weeks he forgot i was pregnant and flung me down on the bed and jumped on top of me (would have ben quite sweet and romantic except for the collision with dd on the way down)

she was fine, poor dp still hasn't gotton over it though.

brettgirl2 · 15/10/2008 12:25

Thanks again, logical side of brain was telling me that pg women must have minor scrapes all the time. If it was that easy to cause damage we would all probably need to wear full body protection for the full 9 months

gingerninja · 15/10/2008 12:32

The baby is still sitting very low down around the pubic bone area at this stage so wouldn't worry too much. My DD frequently jumps on my preg stomach which I imagine is her way of telling her unborn sibling who is boss, but has so far (cross fingers) not caused any problems.
