Travel systems - advice please... Quinny vs Pliko

Hey...
I am undecided about whether or not to go for the Quinny Buzz or the Pliko pramette (Mamas & Papas).
Both seem very nice and are useful with the isofix car seat (Maxicosi) but was wondering if anyone out there had had any good/bad experiences with either?
Also - I am quite tall and while I know that the handle height of the Quinny goes up to a good height I don't know about the Pliko... Any advice?

Never had the Pliko - found the Quinny great for first 6 months and thereafter had lots of problems with it (mainly to do with the front wheel). That said, there are other posts on here where other mums have clearly loved it - do a search for Quinny to find them

We have a quinny and used it for the first 2 years. The front wheel is a problem on the older designs and we did have to replace it after buckling it in a pot hole.

Ours has done hundreds of miles as I walked up to 6 miles a day with it, often loaded with shopping. It is only just starting to look shabby. It is easy to push and steer and not too bad to fold and put in the car. We got it as it was the only pram in the shop that fitted into the boot of our old car but it turned out to be a very good choice. If you go for a pram with inflatable tires like the quinny, go online and order some thorn proof inner tubes. They make it less likely that you'll get a puncture. I got one with DS aged 4 months in the carrycot and 4 bags of shopping to carry a mile home. Not something I want to do again.

It is finally being retired later this month as we have a 2nd baby on the way and need a double.

Isn't the pliko just compatable with the primo viaggio car seat?

mamaberta · 13/10/2008 11:40

I've used the Pliko for two kids now and I loathe it - heavy, bulky (it's the same dimensions as my 2nd hand double pram!! , rubbish brakes, carseat weighs a ton and didn't do that well in Which? carseat tests. You can only clip the carseat into the pram in pushvhair mode which is not suitable for newborns. Unless the design has radically changed in last 2 years then going between pram and pushchair mode is fiddly and time consuming. Emm avoid like the plague IMHO A friend has the Quinny and loves it. The baby can face you which I think is nice. I have always thought she made a better decision .

TBH unless money really is no object I would defo buy a second hand pram. Save the ££ to buy stuff your older child will appreciate. Just get a new car seat. Having a seat which clips into the pram might seem convenient but it makes the pram very heavy to push and it's not that great for babies to be in that carseat position for hours on end on a regular basis. Plus if yours is a big or long baby s/he will be out of the first stage seat but you will be using the pram for much longer.

I have the Buzz and love it. DD is 9 months now and we have walked miles with it. I am also tall and DH is taller and handle height is good. Having a single handle rather than a handle on each side is great as I can push it with one hand if needed. The pram part was lovely when she was tiny - v comfortable for her (she even slept in it on the odd night away). The pushchair can face you or face away - I loved having her face me and chat away with me. She's that bit bigger now so likes to watch the world. And being able to put car seat in is useful. As said, they can't stay in it for too long but when I went somewhere that we'd be in and out quickly it was good. This past weekend DH has her in that when he went to buy a bike - meant he didn't have to put pushchair part in car but could still push her easily.

On the downside, it is big so check it fits your boot. Also not really practical for airtravel (and some low cost airlines now won't check in "2 part" buggies free). We've got a simple Maclaren for holidays. And it is wide so think about storing it at home.

I was looking at 08 buzz the other day and saw they've split the front wheel so there is a short bar between them. This might deal with the problems some mentioned above re front wheel.

Good luck with deciding!

I find that if you try to get one pushchair to fit all criteria you end up with one that tries to do it all and does most of it craply.

I have found most people need at least 2 if not more

I like to have at least one big sturdy pram for walking and one lightweight pram for public transport and chucking in the back of the car for short trips out.
