Hello I am just 5 weeks pregnant, but had a LLETZ procedure done just 9 months ago. I was given the all -clear at the 6 month check up, although the nurse said my cervix was "still healing".

I am now petrified about a weak cervix and 2nd tri m/c - have read lots of scare stories on internet - pls can somebody tell me they conceived so soon after LLETZ and EVERYTHING WAS FINE. Thank you.

i'm bumping this, were the previous lletz threads you'd read also posted in pregnancy do you remember?

lornski · 11/10/2008 20:26

Hi,
had punch biopsy nov 07, then lletz in may 08 at my check up due to other cells becoming noticeable - but fell pregnant in june...... now 20 weeks and bump and me are just fine!
my consultant has said not to worry - will most likely need to be seen by him at clinic post natal but he had no concerns over cervical weakness
only problem ive encountered is some slight bleeding during the pregnancy but the hospital staff have always been great - they check me over and send me home re-assured - although tbh - the bleeding is usually post coital - hence when DH has put a sex ban in place...... tbh - between soreboobs and tiredness im not bothered!!!!! (grin)

I got pregnant the month after LLETZ. The specialist nurse at the colposcopy clinic said that the LLETZ procedure would not cause any problems during pregnancy apart from a slightly increased risk of an earlier birth - by which she meant giving birth aroudn 37 / 38 weeks instead of aroudn 40 weeks. I had absolutely no problems during my pregnancy and delivered my son at 37 weeks. I had previously had a daughter at 37 + 3, so I'm not convinced his early arrival had much to do with the LLETZ.

Congratulations and good luck with your pregnancy. I'm sure you will be fine.

biscuitbarrel · 11/10/2008 23:47

I've had the LLETZ procedure twice over the past 8 years- last one about 6 months before I feel pregnant with dd (born in March). She was 40+10, so defintiely didn't have any impact on early arrival!

I had some slight bleeding during the pregnancy, but nothing that worried any of the professionals I spoke to. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Congratulations on the pregnancy and remember that there are scary stories about EVERYTHING on the internet- Obviously, sad, difficult and awful things do happen, but they are very much the exception rather than the rule.

Best wishes for a wonderful pregnancy

Hi. I've also had 2 LLETZ and conceived dd3 a month after the procedure (no problems). My midwife actually told me that if anything the procedure can make labour a little more drawn out (sorry!) as the scar tissue can sometimes slow down dilation. Nothing to suggest incompotent cervix after procedure these days - was linked in past with cold knife coagulation procedure they used (but for cone rather than large loop) so certainly no worries I'd say

loooouise · 12/10/2008 18:30

Ladies, thank you SOO much! I am feeling MUCH encouraged by your messages and support. I've got that "just found out I'm up the duff" smile on my face again. Now thinking positive thoughts. Thanks again.

Hi I had Lletz March 05 and conceived my son Jan 06. Everything was fine with the pregnancy and birth. He was infact a week late in arriving. I had heard that there had been some research which suggests LLETZ can contribute to premature labour, so I had my cervical length checked around 20 weeks or so (only took a minute or so). As Neolara said, the consultant I saw also said, the procedure can lead to slightly early labour (around 36 weeks) but he was not concerned it would be a problem any earlier.Good luck with your pregnancy.

Hi Louise, I had a cone biopsy in July 07 then conceived in Feb 08. As Diege says, cone biopsy is sometimes linked to "incompetant cervix" so I have been seen by a consultant at intervals throughtout my pregnancy. I had an extra scan around 18 wks to measure cervix length. When I then had my 20 wk scan it had shortened a little and the conographer scared me by saying I had to see the consultant immeadiately. But he didn't seem at all worried and everything has progressed absolutely fine since then - I am now 35 weeks.

I would raise it with your midwife at your booking-in appointment and ask to have an appointment with a consultant to reassure you if need be, but as others have said there is really no need for you to worry.

Congratulations by the way!

Hi,

I had a letz biospy in April 2008 & I conceived in August 2008, i am 17 wks pregnant to date & am glad to say all has been going well so far.
I am also kinda scared that my cervix maybe too weak to carry to full term cuz my Doc said its a risk. But reading all your success stories have been so rewarding. my Doc has forbidden me to have sex during pregnancy but is this necessary????

Hopetobemum · 22/11/2008 22:05

Hi all
I had LLETZ over 15 years ago and not sure if that affected my pregnancy but I have been diagnosed with an incompetent cervix and I just had the stitch done at 12 weeks. I am sure all is going to be fine for you Loooouise but I would definitely ask for the early pregnancy scan and have your cervix measured. I think they normally measure it at 16 weeks.
Best luck to you.

make sure you get on at your drs to keep an eye on your cervixs if your have had any surgery on them.

After 2 lletz i got pregnant with my daughter and prematurly ruptured my membranes at 30 weeks, she was born at 32 weeks.

I had another lletz when i dd was 2

I am now 22 weeks pregnant again and had an emergency cervical cerclage put in yesterday as my cervix is very short and starting to funnel already. Its pretty traumatic really and we can only hope it'll work.

I have really had to pester the Drs to keep an eye on me, the stitch really should have gone in between 14 and 14 weeks.

If you are woried then ask for your cervical length to be monitered as Lletz or cone biopsies do cause incompetant cervixes.

Guadalupe · 22/11/2008 22:53

I had no problems in pregnancy after mine. I asked the consultant about it and he said it was more likely to cause delay in labour due to scar tissue than pregnancy problems. It did take a long while to get going but then third labours can be funny. Who knows.

Try not to get too scared reading things on the internet! Easier said than done. Ask your midwife and gp about it, maybe they can monitor your cervix if you're concerned. Good luck.

WorzselMummage · 22/11/2008 22:56

sorry, i meant they can cause an incompetant cervix, obviously its not the same for everyone.

loooouise · 24/11/2008 18:33

Hi Worzel and Hope glad to hear that they caught your cervixes shortening in time - thank goodness. It sounds like your stitches must have been extremely traumatic for you both. I hope you're doing ok now.

I saw the same consultant who performed the Leetz on me in the ANC today. She seemed very confident that it had posed no risk, as apparently I had a teeny tiny amount removed. She then examined me (ouch!) and pronounced that I had a "beautifully long and closed cervix" and she wouldn't be seeing me again.

I guess I'm pleased, but in truth would have preferred to have been monitored later on too, as I'm only 11 weeks. I've just seen the price list at the Fetal Medicine Centre - £250 for a cervical scan! But the worry keeps lurking in the back of my mind....

Good luck to Lornski, Cole27 and NuffyTuff - let's hope our cervixes stay good for the duration!

my friend conceived with 6 weeks of a lletz ( all round )

not close enough to know about any minor probs - but seemed all ok - healthy baby to term

chunkychips · 24/11/2008 18:48

I was fine, was about five months after. Consultant said there was no reason why it should affect the pregnancy. Didn't slow down my labour she was born within an hour of contractions!

chunkychips · 24/11/2008 18:52

and day after due date

campsa · 26/11/2008 21:50

Hello

I am 8 weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby and had Lletz procedure done in January 08, I also had Leukaemia last year but am now in remission, so you could say its been a bit of a rollercoaster, so to discover that I was pregnant was a mixture of sheer delight and absolute fear!

I am really concerned about a number of health issues but would really like some guidance on the Lletz and if it poses a threat to the baby. I am not due to see my midwife until next week so want to be prepared with what I need to ask etc.
