When you go into labour will be fine. The trick is to remember!! I didn't (too much else going on) but started taking them the next day and they really, really helped (and I had a c-section so there was some healing to do!!!)

Good luck!!

as soon as you have had the baby. they do work, i tock them and was back on my feet the same day, had ds at 9.15am and was ok by mid-afternoon. really helped me.

leahbump · 02/03/2005 16:52

I started in Labour...think it really helped the bruising afterwards too...esp as I had bad bruising where ever I had a needle, drip, epidural etc......grrrr

Thanks for the quick replies! Will pop them in my hospital bag and make sure DH gives them to me!!!

Some research has been inconclusive and they seem to suggest that these are no more than placebo. I had not heard of them before today. I think like anything else in life it may work for one individual and not for the next.

What do people think of them in here?

eidsvold · 02/03/2005 21:44

I have had 2 c-sections and used Arnica for the second - did not know about it for no1. For no2 I healed quicker and was on light pain relief earlier than with no1. I am sure they helped along with the tea tree oil for my wound. I simply started taking them when I got back to my room.

motherpeculiar · 03/03/2005 10:23

I use them a lot even outside of labour. I bruise quite easily and always notice the difference in scale, intensity, soreness if I haven't managed to take some arnica immediately after a knock. (I'm forever walking into things so I have a lot of experience )

Would definitely take them. Take the high potency for best healing after labour. 200C I think.

Good luck.

Prettybird · 03/03/2005 10:35

I beleive they helped me.

My view is that even if it is just a placebo effect, who cares? - as long as it has had a positive effect!

Prufrock · 03/03/2005 10:40

I use them all the time - and often on dd - who is far too young to benefit from a placebo effect. It's not actually the arnica that stops the bruising - it just stimulates the bodies own immune system to deal with it more effectively.

Vornsta · 07/03/2005 15:38

anyone know how often you take the 200c tablets?

Lolasmum · 09/03/2005 12:47

And is it Ok to breasfeed whilst taking them?

hotmama · 09/03/2005 13:18

I believe it is O.K to breastfeed whilst taking arnica - I did.

I didn't start taking my arnica tablets until nearly a week after giving birth - but I did find them really helpful after a lovely forceps delivery etc.

Would also really recommend some of those gel packs that you put in the freezer and then insert into a disposable muslin wrap and put in your knickers - there were absolute bliss for the few weeks after the birth.

breastfed whilst using arnica

bonym · 11/03/2005 21:29

I used them after giving birth to dd and healed from episiotomy & stitches really quickly. I read somewhere recently that if you take them every hour in labour they can also help with the pain - don't know if this is true but I'm going to try anyway!
