Anyone given birth at Chorley hospital?

All the hospitals round here (Essex) have rotten reviews, stats etc. My mother had my sisters and I at St John's Chelmsford and said her treatment was horrific. My boyfriend is originally from Lancashire (near Preston) and we decided quite early on that we'd like to go and stay with his parents a few weeks before the baby is due and have her/him up there.

Have heard a lot of god thngs about Chorley, which I believe is the nearest to boyfriend's parents' house. Any mumsnet women who had their bubs there who could corroborate the good things I've heard, or even contradict? Anything welcome. Thanks in advance.

I have had a baby at ormskirk hospital in lancashire and work there as a doula.. i find it to be a very good hospital and they do have women from chorley/ preston/ liverpool area delivering there.

no experience of chorley i'm afraid.

you will need to register for your antenatal care when you get up north i think, and speak to the hospital where you would like to deliver, rather than just turning up in labour !

and it would be beneficial to look aroudn the hospitals in the area, as tehre are a few maternity units.

or consider a homebirht where you are in essex, i know some lovely doulas there who could give you some advice and support

I wanted Chorley but i wasn't allowed for medical reasons, it is a midwife led unit and is totally lovely, clean and quiet.

I did transfer there after my section in Preston, and there was only me and 2 other mums in, i had all my prenatal care in Chorley too. All the midwives are really nice and can't do enough for you.

Preston on the other hand...... not good really.

I had my 2 at Preston and it was great, have heard good things about Chorley too. But it's a midwife led unit so i thnk if u have to be induced u have to transfer to Preston.

Preston is a much bigger hosp, and is busy, but care i had was excellent

i had my first dd at chorley in 2005 in the birthing pool was a really good birth, midwives lovely, you can only have pethadine or gas and air though and there are no doctors. Aftercare was a bit of a let down as they were very understaffed and could not help with breast feeding, even though there were only 2 new mums in the whole unit. Im due on 30th oct with my 2nd and am planning to go to Chorley again but to come home asap. if your anemic or need to be induced then you have to go to Preston which is much busier but have heard only good things about care there too.
