Period pain at 5wks pg

Hi all, I have recently found out I'm pg for the 3rd time. My history is that I m/c my 1st at 6.5wks and then went on to have beautiful ds, now 20mo. We've been trying to get pg again for many months now and thought it hadn't happened this month as I had some light spotting at 4wks, but the test came back BFP after the spotting dwindled away. I am 5wks today and just spent most of yesterday in bed with a medium dull ache way down low, sort of reminding me of the heaviness of a period. I remember having this pain about a week before I first m/c but it was much stronger and really did make me feel like my AF was on the way.

So my question to all of you is, has anyone had mild-medium period pains and still kept the pregnancy?

I'm going to try and get an appt at the docs but I know an internal scan will not show up much till I'm around 7wks. I'll probably m/c by then if that is what's going to happen? The only other thing I can think of is since having ds I can 'feel' things going on in my body much more. I now get an ovulation pain which I'd never had before his pg. Also other sensations I don't want to bore you with. So maybe my body is just more sensitive to feelings and this is nothing to worry about and is a normal pg pain this time round?? Oh, I just wish I knew right now which way it's going to be so I can start preparing myself?.

Any advice really welcome.

Thanks toothache. I know I'm just getting all paranoid. It's the waiting... I will try and relax between now and Wed. Thx again.

Hi 99redballoons. Just to say, I had period pains throughout my entire pregnancy, with no ill effects. I also spent the first 3 months convinced the tests were wrong, until I saw the baby on the dating scan, as I had no classic symptoms at all. Just relax and try not to let things creep in your head. I know thats easy to say and not so easy to do, but I'm sure it'l all be fine.
BTW, we are finally moving... completion on Tuesday... so I'll officially be 'of your area'!!!

Hi 99redballoons

An obs consultant explained to me that most mammals who have "litters" of young have dedicated areas of the uterus where the pregnancies implant. Animals unlike humans are not thought to experience "implantation pain" as a result. In humans the pregnancy/ies can implant anywhere in the uterus and as a result pain is often felt in early pregnancy as the embryo implants. Fascinating eh!? Along with the ligaments stretching this would account for the pain you're describing. I had it with my first two pgs and I remember feeling that AF was going to show up at any time. It should pass once the nerve endings calm down. HTH

i ahd that with my first and they scanned me as iwas scared it was an ectopic pregnancy but al turned out ok anyway they said the pains/ache was probably the egg implanting itself in the uterus so dont worry , i1m sure its fine

I've always had that dull ache, period about to start, feeling - but it has passed around the 6 week mark. Doesn't stop you going to the loo every half-hour to check that all is well, though.

I think the best thing is to focus on a distant date - maybe between 6 and 7 weeks - and refuse to get your hopes up until then.

hi 99red balloons, I too have had those ' stretching' pains like pps and with both pregnancies. I still get them now at 31 weeks! but it seems they arew pretty common and nothing to sorry about.best of luck with everything.
