Right, so I am 33 wks, and have a 1.5 hour journey from home to hospital, when things start to happen.
My waters didn't break last time. I am a diabetic on a pump, and my diabetes went haywire, so Prof said come in now. 2 wks before my elcs was booked. As it was I started contractions, and within minutes, they were every minute. and I was 4-5 cm dilated by the time I arrived.
Does that sound very 'fast' to anyone. Like from nothing to 1/2 way, quite quickly ?

This time I have been told that my amniotic fluid , there is ALOT. up in the 95th+++ centile. No cause for concern. Baby is completely average measurements, not that big. She did warn me, that if they break, man they will WHOOSH big time.

My sil and I joked that if I get any feelings at all, I am to go immed and sit in dh's precious Mercedes, just for the hell of it.
But seriously, I really like my dh's Merc aswell. And wouldn't want tons and tons of waters breaking ewverywhere. It can smell quite strong, can't it? How do you clean it?

What is the best plastic seat cover to buy? And will I need anything else, other than quite a few towels ?

boots do big absorbant pads especially for this- maybe put several down!

A large mothercare plastic bag did the trick for me....

(though I was protecting the back seat of a cab, not dh's precious car...)

Black bin backs taped together. Works for on your mattress in your bed too!

I gave birth in our car (although waters had gone before, on the kitchen floor) and there was really not as much mess as you'd think. I was sitting on a towel anyway. Take a few towels with you as I had to use the one I'd been sitting on to wrap DD2 in and then was left sitting on a pillow which was more tricky to wash!

Bin bags obviously!

O.k. Bin bags it is. Thanks.
I love it when MN tells me not to bother buying some £25.99 rip-off.

i had tesco value shower curtains..99p!
used them for my hb to cover my bed and the floor, then chucked them.

my dh, with my first baby insisted on covering my car seat with a plastic cover that mechanics use when they work on your car....his mate worked for lexus, so he thought he was being very posh!
