Nuchal of 4mm

Obviosly will be having more tests but not till Monday.

Has anyone had a really hogh nuchal fold measurement? What was the outcome? We are expecting the worst of course and time is going so slowly.

Hi Twooaks - I'm no expert but didn't want your post to go unanswered.
Sorry you're going throguh so much anguish - it's a nightmare after getting high results (been there, albeit with the triple test with dd1). You're right 4mm is on the high side (I think they go on anything over 3mm). However, blood test results might significantly change the result. My sonographer didn't give out the results until they'd combined them with the bloods (had Nucahl Plus test with dd3)as she said the nuchal measurement was potentially misleading on its own. Is it blood test results you're waiting for on Monday?

4mm is quite high (they normally like it to be between 1mm and 3.5mm) but some babies do have those kinds of measurements and are fine, so don't panic. They won't give you the risk factors until you get the bloods back.

If your risks of Down's, Edward's or Patau's Syndrome are high, they will offer you a CVS (chorionic villus sampling) or an amnio to find out for certain if the baby has one of those. You can have the CVS earlier than an amnio, but it has a slightly higher risk of miscarriage.

They will probably also offer you a specialist scan of the baby's heart, as sometimes high nuchal measurements can be associated with heart conditions.

The waiting is really hard, but try to remember that these tests are not definitive, so you have a good chance that everything is absolutely fine. Wishing you all the best for Monday

Nobody else has mentioned Turner's syndrome where a girl fetus has only one x chromosone (instead of the usual 2). Although it usually means some problems, Turners' can be extremely mild and it is often the cause of high nuchal fold numbers.
