Nuchal scan - what is a good measurement?

I have my nuchal scan in a afew weeks. The hospital I'm at do the combined result with bloods so don't give you any 'result' at the actual scan. I was trying to find out somewhere what the actual nuchal fold measurements are which fall into the 'normal' category, in case I can glimpse what the sonographer writes down. Does anyone know what they are or know where I can find out online?

2.5 is usually the figure cited although this is a bit pessimestic if you have a late scan as the "normal" measurement grows with the baby

Flirty - I also had the combined test - but they still gave me the result of the measurement during the scan and told me if it was good or a concern.
I think its anything under 3mm is a normal result. it used to be 2.5 but is now 3 in my area. My result came back as 1.6 so was within normal range.
They then put this in to the computer, with your blood results and age and they give you a combined risk level.
I was told that unless I had heard from my midwife within 2 wks I could consider the result as normal. I then got my actual result on my next ante natal app.
I am 37 so was a bit concerned but it was fine. My risk wih age alone came back as 1:250 but with the combined result it came in at 1:4612.
Hope this helps.

Slightly depends on exactly how old the feotus is. As Witch and Chips said 2.5 is often cited. However we had a measurement of 2.9 and once the bloods came back the risk factor was not as high as I expected.

Thanks ladies! :-)

They told me that they will not give out any measurements at the scan...so will try and sneek a little look.
I was also told it would take 2 weeks for results, but likely be less if there's a perceived problem. Will keep everything crossed...you do seem to spend a great deal of time just waiting for things in pregnancy!

Oh, I'll be 12+6 by my dates and 12+3 by hospital's (they don't seem capable of adjusting the dates to account for my short cycle)

Where do you live Flirty? My HA say they will not give out measurements at the scan but if the measurement is above 3mm then they do alert you that whatever your bloods you are going to be considered high risk.

I'm having it done at Kingston Hospital.
Thanks for the tip, Artichokes.

I have just had my 12 week scan and found out I'm 13 weeks, the nuchal measurement was 2:1. On babycentre.co.uk it advises that 2 or below at 12 weeks in low risk, rising to 2.8 at 13 weeks + 6 days. As I was exactly 13 weeks on the day of the test I am unsure as to whether 2:1 is considered a good or bad result, especially as I'm 38. I'm obviously concerned, can anyone shed any light on this for me?

ChunkyPickle · 26/02/2010 13:38

At mine they didn't give me a risk (they do blood tests) but then they handed me a printout sheet for my notes that had all the measurements on it anyhow....

Assuming they do similar (or do they look after your notes for you where you are?) you can just look there - they're your notes, so you could always ask to see them..
