Are belly bands any good?

Hi at that awkward stage where too small for mat clothes but normal clothes are too tight.
Was thinking of getting one of those belly band thingys but if they go over your normal clothes which are left unfastened- do they not show the buttons undone bulge under the band?
Does that make any sense? you know when your jeans are undone and the button and hole dont meet due to your expanding belly and they lie apart over your tummy? lets say you have the belly band over them- do they not show the bulge?

Ok talking crap now but if any of you understand my pregnant rambles then please post

I thought they were great. the material is reasonably thick, so they don't show the "joins" too much IYKWIM. topshop sell 'em for a fiver.

EBenes · 24/09/2008 10:10

I liked them in the beginning, but now at 30 weeks have no use for them because I've had to move onto proper maternity clothes. So don't go mad and buy loads, but it definitely is worth having one around.

mum2becks · 24/09/2008 12:18

I found them very useful at the beginning so you can still wear your normal clothes, plus as I am tall I am finding them useful again now (34 weeks) as my bump is now so big a lot of maternity clothes arent quite long enough so the bump band fills the gap!!

LittleMyDancingForJoy · 24/09/2008 12:19

If you buy the ones from JoJoMamanBebe they're a bit more pricey (£15) but they have a button hole and some buttons on them so you can anchor your trousers to them, iyswim.

Hard to explain without a diagram, but I find them brilliant.

MerlinsBeard · 24/09/2008 12:21

i used mine for AGES! Got one from topshop for £5 and used it to hide the fact that my trousers were unbuttoned, used it as a layered look under maternity tops, and used it afterwards for keeping war, and when feeding o i didn't lose my postnatal over hang over the top of my trousers!

ZacharyQuack · 24/09/2008 12:23

They're also great after birth if you breastfeed, as you can wear them under your top to hide your belly when you lift your shirt to feed.

I used Primark boob tubes, which were £1 in summer, Could cut the straps of a skimpy vest top for same effect.

snowleopard · 24/09/2008 16:45

I loved mine, £8 from Formes.

Again i am an ebay addict, i got mine from there. 2 for £9.99 that includes postage.

Were fab because i could wear my fav top a little bit longer, and my sister uses it now for covering her tum when she breastfeeds.

Got mine from these cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=370089477232

I got some cheap ones from Mothercare and New Look - crap, no stretch in them. Got slightly more pricey ones from Isabella Oliver and they are a lifesaver! I wear them most days to counteract the crappy-materntiy-trousers-that-fall-down-and-tops-that-ride-up problem :-)

lilymolly · 26/09/2008 19:54

Oh so its worth getting more expensive ones then?
Was going to go to Mothercare/new look tomorrow- may change mind now!

Fab. I got mine off Ebay. Wear it every day. I had SPD in my 1st pregnancy and had to wear a support belt (Ugly white thing). This is much more attractive (Black - blends in) and offers support too. If i have to wear my support belt I just put this over the top. Stops trousers falling down and stops skirts looking like tents!

dan39 · 28/09/2008 15:28

I got 3 for £9 from New Look and think they are fab, stretchy enough and comfy and a godsend - I am 21 weeks now and still using them. They come in a set of white, black and grey tho I basically live in the black one! I didn't have a prob with the button showing thing, and its true they help hold up the crappy fally down maternity trousers!

JacobsPrincess · 28/09/2008 15:33

Got £3 one from New look and £10 from mother care. Great for covering up but not strong enough to give support.
New look just have a simple lycra tube.
Mothercare's have gathered sides and a longer front so are more flattering for a bigger bump.
Still using mine for breastfeeding, it's fab for covering my jellybelly and has given me more confidence to feed when out of the house.

lilymolly · 28/09/2008 19:21

Got the 3 for £9 at new look yesterday and wore them for the first time- Agree they are a bit thin so I may buy a thicker one, but I wore a nice pair of jeans with a short jumper and had the white band in the middle which was really nice.
Mothercare did not have any in the store yesterday.

Thanks for advice
