12 weeks pregnant and been having huge problems for last 2 weeks with constipation and bloating. I have tried everything, mountains of fruit, prune juice every day, linseed, All bran for breakfast today, lactulose, senna, glycerine suppos. , went to doctors and was given movicol which i took at the huge 3 day impaction dose, and still not really cleaned out. Finally yesterday ate some 'chili jam' that i had in the fridge that I remembered my stomach couldnt cope with - that worked but hugely painful and not something i want to repeat every day!

I am getting hugely bloated and uncomfortable if i don't go in the morning but i've totally run out of ideas.

help please!
thanks

I was drinking grapefruit juice when TTC, and that seemed to have quite an effect - possibly worth a try ?

I find drinking LOADS of water helps aswell - and I've benefited by swapping to an oat cereal (like Oatibix) rather than a wheat based one. I have IBS and problems in this area anyway and these things have helped me hold the early pregnancy constipation at bay

raw garlic always works for me - i make some up in a butter and have it on chunky bread

you never know

thanks both. Will try grapefruit but as prune is not doing a thing, nor grapes, i am not hopeful. Fraid large amounts of garlic might be out as loads of meetings at work tomorrow :-(

Anyone know if the Oxypowder that has been mentioned on here is ok for pregnancy?

dried apricots are good, also high in iron too.

Indian food with garlic and onions.Or things with cheese sauce

I agree with the dried apricots thing. Tried everything including lactulaose, fybergel etc etc but about 10 apricots a day works every time. Blissful. (make sure you get the sulphur free ones though. They look foul but taste the same!)

Have just an older thread where people swear by Linseed

thanks for this thread... I must try these tips. I'm 29 weeks and thought I might have to go to A&E yesterday because things got so bad .

jasperc163 · 24/09/2008 10:54

thanks everyone. I have found i am doing better if i dont eat so called fibrous foods that are all meant to help ie all bran, linseed etc as I seem to be less bloated at least. Also had some success with Calfig.

Jools1 has a point, you need to drink water. Bran is good but you need water to make it work!

Hello, I feel for you. A hypnobirthing technique for birthing that you practice while pooing is to 'breathe down' - deep breath in through nose, then out through nose focussing on breath moving down - rolling down inside of spine for example - or visualising a stone plopping into a pond and the ripples moving outwards.

Sounds weird, but it works. Probably best in conjunction with loads of water/other drinks, soups (I drink 3 or 4 litres a day at slightest sign of problem and that seems to work).
