Am just over 4 weeks pg but we were thinking of having a holiday at the end of Sept - somewhere that would involve a 2-3 hour flight. SO I would be (fingers crossed!) 7 weeks byt hen.. Is it safe to fly then?

yes, it is only really towards the last trimester you need to worry, but make sure your travel insurance covers any pregnancy related issues, just in case.. congratulations.

Is it safe? A fertility clinic specialist told me that it's not recommended for the first 12 weeks for anyone.

aurorec · 10/09/2008 09:42

I've never heard it not being recommended in the first trimester, the only issue might be morning sickness as far as I can tell.

I thought it was not recommended in the first trimester too - something to do with radiation exposure www.iswap.org/FlyingandPregnancy.htm

but - that looks like it might just be for cabin staff and repeated exposure

BUmp - any other thoughts, anyone?

I'd forgotten about radiation exposure- as you said it's only for very frequent flyers.
If you're looking at a one-off 3 hour flight, you're absolutely fine.

Unless as mentioned you have morning sickness, in which case it might be a bit annoying but not health damaging.

Hobnob I wouldn't worry!
Maybe the fertility clinic specialist said it because he's dealing with more delicate pregnancies, and he wants to inform mothers of ALL potential risks, even the most unlikely. If you look at the link posted above, it discusses possible problems for air hostesses- suggesting average passengers can fly with no ill-effects whatsover.
