Boo to the NCT

31 weeks and no NCT class. They seem to be pretty flaky and not to organise much, the NCT in our area, and they've not come up with any classes for me, nor do I get a sense that they're running any (maybe they are).

Anyway, my only real reason for doing the NCT classes was to get a bunch of friends - a bit strange when you think of it, paying to make friends. So could you all slag off the NCT now please so that I don't feel that I'm missing out. And tell me that you made friends after you'd had the bub?

Hi kraftwerkittie

I'm in sunny Walthamstow too but a bit behind you - not due til end of February. I have signed up for NCT classes - or at least, sent my cheque off and its all gone quiet. I know they are holding a second-hand sale on 11th October. I also had a lovely talk with someone there when I had a miscarriage last year. So I am looking forward to being involved with the group, even though I've thought of lots of other things I could spend the cash on; i think it partly is nerves about meeting other mums which I now feel quite reassured about! Try the NCT website and putting 'E17' into the events bit - it should bring up a couple of things, at least.

Yerk AnarchyAunt that sounds horrible. How depressing. I've done the NHS classes, which was like an exercise in CIA torture techniques - plastic seats, the hottest room known to man, too many people, and a smelly bin - then, two hours of chat followed by a video of two women giving birth. one of the girls in the class started crying! Good times!

no biscuits, alas!

plus, hi eejaykay! another walthamstow gal! am planning to go to the sale on 11th october. will take a look on the website for any other events. it's all a matter of luck really, isn't it? i'm glad from everybody's testimonies that the nct classes weren't my only chance to meet some nice peeps and not have to sit indoors, trying to get some conversation out of the bub while i wait for everyone to get home from work... and i'll look into getting involved in some way too...

kraftwerk, have you looked at the local mumsnet sites including tower hamlets and hackney?

Hello Kraftwerkkittie, Just wanted to say I'm in E17 too and though I don't have much to do with NCT generally, I do meet up regularly with the Mums with babies born in the same month (about ten of us) and it's great. There's loads of other stuff too in E17, at the various children's centres etc. I found that I got a deluge of info about this only after I had the baby.
