Hi

I was diagnosed late (36 weeks) with Gestational Diabetes and this week my consultant has decided that I should be induced at just over 38 weeks as reckons the baby is huge and I am carrying a huge amount of fluid. I know its not ideal but they have scared me now so I just want him out safely.

They said the induction will take about three days - grateful for the benefit of anyone's experience on being induced (please don't scare me too much though)

northernlurker I saw Ms Mitchell - she seems fine - first time to see her. I think she might be the consultant for diabetic mums so you might ony have seen her if you had it.

You've got to expect hospitaal food ot be crap really don't you? Am more bothered that it is clean and it certaily seems to be.

Aha - I saw her for my induction many years ago and I thought you might have her. I literally saw her once (I didn't have GD - she was just who I was assigned to)- but she was very nice and otherwise I've heard good things about her. Cleanlinesswise it was definately fine and the midwives I've had were lovely too. Tip for afterwards - if you are staying in try to make sure they give you one of the beds that move position by remote control. I was only in for about 6 hours with dd3 but got one of those by a fluke (they still have - or had last year anyway- some beds which you can only adjust the headrest on manually) It was brilliant for getting in a comfy position to feed baby - so much easier than faffing around with a pillow. I imagine they prioritise them for c-section mums but it's worth a try. Of course they mave have updated the whole stock by now....

I was induced at 36 weeks, had one of the gel things which caused no pain at all and no labour then they told me they would try breaking my waters to see if that helped or I would have to have a c section (I had preeclampsia) my son was born an hour and 20 minutes later! it was my second baby and I actually preffered the experience if induction to normal labour lol. The main advice I have is try to stay up and about after the gel and take things to do I was only there 7 hours from first gel to delivery of baby but I was bored stupid for most of it.

the other thing is that in my first labour I was alone in the hospital for the night in labour having some pains ranging from mild to not being able to walk during a contraction, the best advice I cav give is dont stay in bed! - go for a walk even if it is only around the corridor or to the toilet (also you can get peace for 10 mins by sitting on the toilet!). remember you are not a prisoner and have the right to move about as you please.

I actually have really fond memories of that night I cant really explain why I just remember everything being really quiet and knowing my baby was on the way .

I think things will be great
