runny egg - oops - how bad?

Had a bit of a brain hiccup this morning. Went out for breakfast and scoffed a (delicious) plate of eggs benedict. Only as I was mopping up the last of the runny egg did it occur to me that I shouldn't have had it. Is this a big no-no, and should I be worried...?

Weeeeeeell, officially yes but, you know, you have to have some pleasure. Can't bear rubber eggs, have to have them runny. So, wouldn't worry too much. Think it'd be you that'd get ill rather than the baby. Could be wrong but that's how unworried I'd be about it.

The worry with uncooked eggs is the possibility of you catching salmonella - which is a very low statistical possibility.

I meant under cooked eggs of course .... if you want to eat uncooked eggs, IMO you are certifiable

I love my eggs runny, and make sure I buy the ones with the lion mark on them, which are from certified salmonella free hens. Then you can eat them as runny as you like! When you are out, I suppose you have less control over where the eggs are from.....
I think it depends on how strict you are with all the guidelines (many of which weren't there a few years ago by the way). I still eat my meat pink as well, though strictly speaking i shouldn't, but have avoided the runny unpasturised brie, the pate and the sushi....
good luck and enjoy your pregnancy!

I had firmly cooked eggs for my first few pregnancies. For the last couple, I was happy with runny.

It's all about salmonella, and the risk of salmonella is very low in the UK now. Am I right in thinking that Lion marked eggs are guaranteed to be from a salmonella-free flock.

Snugs · 20/02/2005 13:13

Lion marked eggs come from flocks vaccinated against Salmonella entiritis - but there are thousands of types of salmonella. They are about the closest thing you will get to guaranteed salmonella free though.

Always wash eggs before using them. If there is a risk of salmonella it is in the faeces and you can contaminate the contents if you dont wash them.

The issue with eggs is salmonella, which is sometimes in eggs and is destroyed by cooking, hence hard eggs are ok. I had salmonella at 6 months pregnant and while it wasn't pleasant or pretty, the baby was fine. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Oh, and I don't know where I got my salmonella (prob a pub meal) but it def wasn't eggs. So the risk of salmonella is fairly low and even if you do get it it's not always a disaster.
