I thought I posted this earlier but maybe not... so this abseiling has been booked for a while (at centerparcs so it's not a mammoth abseil) and I really want to do it but wondered if it's still advisable at 7 weeks pregnant. Any opinions?

Hi a bit of an aside on this. I am coming up to 5 weeks and going to Centre parcs too!! Am I allowed to go down the rapids in the pool?? and what about the whirlpools jacuzzis etc??

before this week I'd have said yes, but at the weekend I went boogie boarding at 12 weeks pg for 3 days and then had a bleed this week - don't know if they are related but I am going to be much more careful than I have been before - not worth the risk IMO

oh similar thing for me- really wanted to do "go ape" but now 11 weeks pregnant and have decided not to go-

Same for my horse riding- I dont think the physical risk is huge as you say , uterus is protected in pelvis and baby is so tiny and so well protected.
For me, I just had an emotional reaction and did not feel comfortable either on horse or even handling him- maybe its instinct.

The other thing to think about is that some people dont even find out they are pregnant until way past 7 weeks and continue with life as normal.

For me its a personal decision, based on how you feel.

dinny - is this #3?! Congrats!

(we were on the sep 2004 preggers board)

Highlander - yes, number 3 (eek!)

have been soooooooooooooo sick, still ongoing, bleurgh

lollipopmother · 29/08/2008 10:41

Lilymolly - I wish my mother had felt like that, she confessed to riding until she was 6 months pregnant with me, and then only stopped because she couldn't get her jacket on or bend to put her boots on! AND she was out hunting!

Re the jakuzi - I think they say you shouldn't, in case a bubble goes up your bits!

muggglewump · 29/08/2008 10:50

I'd do it. I climbed Sydney Harbour Bridge at 6 weeks and I think they did have a sign or something advising pg women not to but I ignored it as I knew it was a one off chance. It was just like walking upstairs anyway so I couldn't see the risk

lilymolly · 29/08/2008 17:17

oh my gosh she was out hunting

god last time I went out hunting I feared for my safety never mind an embryo

Oh and regards to the jucuzzi- oh damn yes I would go in it

snuffkin · 03/09/2008 20:26

Well I did it! They make you sign a dissclaimer about tieing your shoelaces at these kind of places so I knew I'd have to do that. Spoke to a midwife of many years experince and she said it's all about how you feel and as someone pointed out, how you'd feel if amything did go wrong and whether you'd blame yourself thinking the two may be connected.
Anyway it was fun... thanks for the debate!

This is where I confess to skiing off piste at 7 weeks . I argued that it was safer than piste skiing as there were far fewer people to plough into me!

bozette · 04/09/2008 11:49

I was off piste skiing too at 12-14 weeks. I'm sure abseiling would be fine, i would definitely do it. I then slipped on some ice when walking across the road and broke my wrist!!

bozette · 04/09/2008 11:50

Oops just read properly that you did do it, well done!!
