In the hope i dont get thrown off mumsnet for asking a question about something most people hate.... their weight!!! I was just wondering what people put on during pregnancy. ( for their first ideally but any info is good)
I keep hearing so many different stories. from try and keep as healthy as poss so u dont have to worry about losing the weight after- to eat what you want when you want your allowed to your pregnant! ahh so confusing for a first timer.

2.5 stone both times and lost most of it straight away both times.

Mirage · 18/02/2005 21:09

I put on at least 4stone with dd.I stopped weighing myself after that.I was 8st3lb before I got pregnant & well over 12stone by the time she was born.I wasn't bothered as I've never been able to put on weight & it was nice being well rounded.By the time dd was 6 months old it had all gone though-I had hoped I'd manage to keep some of it.

I'm currently 25wks pregnant & have only put a stone on.I was still wearing size 10 skirts & trousers until last week. All my maternity clothes are too big.Its all very odd,as apparently the baby is a 'good size'.

highlander · 18/02/2005 21:22

I put on a stone and a half. Convinced that at least a stone of that was (is) in my boobs

It was quite a shock to see how much you deflate immediately after the birth; I thought everything took a while to get back to normal. I remember lying in recovery exclaiming to the nurses that I could see my pubes!! I also tried to strike up a conversation with some unconcious guy in the bed next to me. The joys of morphine

Gwenick · 18/02/2005 21:26

Do I get the record???? went from 7 stone exactly to just over 12st with my first pg (he only weighed 7lb 5oz at birth too),

2nd pg wasn't as bad, only went from 9 stone to 11 - and dropped 1st of that almost as soon as he was born.

And with my first I really didn't eat half as much as I should have done for the 1st 4 months (it was wedding cake from Breakfast, bread and butter for lunch and minced beef and rice for dinner ) so put the 5st on in about 5 months!

ghosty · 18/02/2005 21:26

I was 9st when I got pregnant with DS ...
13 st the day I went into labour

With DD it was worse ... but they do it in kilos here ...
60kg when I got pregnant .... 89kgs the day before she was born.
Am only just getting back(ish) ... am 64kgs now ... DD is one year old.
People tell me that it isn't surprising that I put on so much weight as I had such big babies ... but 10lbs doesn't add up to 4 stone does it????????????????????

milward · 18/02/2005 21:31

25 kilos!! - I lost it through bf & just being busy with a baby to look after. It didn't seem to matter what I ate. I gained loads in the first months & then just a little for the other months. Was huge!! My last pregnancy I started at 56.6 kilo's & ended up at 81 (gave birth 2 weeks early as well!!) At my six week check up was 65 kilos. I've never dieted. The rest just came off afterwards. I'm preg again & have put on loads. A friend of mine just put on 7 kilos though - so everyone is different

Gwenick · 18/02/2005 21:33

25kgs is about 55lbs - just under 4st.

milward · 18/02/2005 21:38

Never thought of it like that gwenick!! - it's scary. You're still the winner - will probably give you a challenge (without meaning to) with this pregnancy. I'm not looking forward to my check-up weight

jabberwocky · 18/02/2005 21:41

I don't know how to calculate from pounds to stone but I gained 40 lbs with ds. Started gaining almost the minute I got pregnant and averaged an even pound a week. It just didn't seem to matter what I ate, the weight went on and on and on...

bee3 · 18/02/2005 21:44

I went from 9 1/2 stone to just over 13 stone. I was HUGE! Ds only 7 lb when he was born, although told I was having a big baby. Ds now just over 1 year and I'm down to 10 stone...slow but steady weight loss over the year. Not quite back into pre-pregancy clothes but I breathe in and zip up tight

musicmaker · 20/02/2005 15:45

Hello I was 9.8, went to 9.3 with morning sickness about 8 weeks pregnant then slowly and steadily up to 11 stone. My hunger did not increase until I was 6 months and I ate as healthy as possible but still treated myself to cakes, choccies and crisps but kept them to a minimum.

I did not diet after because I was breastfeeding. I breastfed for 8 months and noticed a decrease in my appetite.

I lost the weight slowly throughout the first year when my daughter was 15 months I noticed I weighed less than before I had her. She will be two next month and I weigh just under 9 stone.

I think breastfeeding speeded my metabolism up. I have quite a large appetite but I try to eat healthy. I also walk everywhere.

I think when some people fall pregnant they just think EAT EAT EAT anything!!! You dont actually need much extra calories. If you just eat when your hungry and make it healthy your weight gained will naturally fall off slowly. You have to think about it like it took you alomost 10 months to gain the weight so it will probably take you a bit longer to lose and the slower you lose it the better. But try not to worry about the weight too much. Whats important is you look after yourself and just listen to your body

Good luck x

musicmaker · 20/02/2005 16:01

HELLO

That should read that I noticed a decrease in my appetite when I finished breastfeeding.

musicmaker · 20/02/2005 16:05

Oh and one more thing!

I'm not sure if this goes for all mothers but after my baby was born I was not as bothered about my looks as I was... not saying I let myself go but my priorities just changed. Being chubby did not bother me. But after about 8 months you think "right, I think its time I got fitted back in my jeans"

SeaShells · 20/02/2005 16:19

I gained 4stone with 1st, I was young and I think I gained so much due to believing when people said that you can eat whatever you want when pg plus I was living away from home for the first time and eating junk! Started at 8st, ended up at 12st, took a few years to shed it.
With 2nd I hardly put on any weight, within a month or so I was back to pre-pg weight, I had to try to stay as healthy as possible, which was hard when I suffer horrible morning sickness and can only eat rubbish at that stage!

4.5 stone in first pregnancy

lost all but 1 stone pretty quickly

2.5 stone in 2nd pregnancy

but again was left with a stone over from that one

NameChangingMancMidlander · 20/02/2005 16:26

i gained 2 stone. went from 8st 7 to 10st 7 (5ft 7in). i was 20 when dd (7lb 1oz) was born, don't believe those liars that tell you you'll 'snap back into shape' cos you're young & fit. i was a 20 year old dancer and it's taken me TWO years to shed the stone i wanted to drop and keep it off.

Cristina7 · 20/02/2005 16:27

About 30 kg, I'm afraid. The baby was 4.1 kg but the rest was mine, all mine.

snafu · 20/02/2005 16:31

Am I weird? I honestly have no idea how much weight I put on, at all. I just know I got a lot fatter and had to buy some much bigger clothes I lost most of it throught bf-ing but I couldn't tell you what weight I started at, ended at, or what I am now.

Maybe I ought to buy some scales!

I was the lightest I had ever been (since childhood) after dieting when I got pregnant I was 8 1/2 stone, the day I went into labour I was 12 stone, was told I was having a big baby, out pops the tinyest thing ever, dd was 5lb 9oz!!
I did gorge on anything I could get my hands on while pregnant!!
dd is 4 in 2 weeks and I am heavier now than I was after I had her, although I did get down to 9 stone 2 years ago, I gave up smoking and put on a lot of weight,am struggling with that now!
My advice to anyone pregnant for the first time is eat when you need to eat and don't worry about it! I on the othr hand, ate for the sake of eating, thinking I'd get away with it all cos I was preggers!

alux · 21/02/2005 06:06

At 31 wks with first, I have put on 1 st 5.
I have gone from 50kgs to 59 kgs so far.

I have always been a skinny thing who ate what she liked and was hoping to put on some curves even if just for a little while. Now I am a skinny thing who looks like she swallowed a melon.

vicstervic · 22/02/2005 21:39

Was lucky enough to avoid morning sickness completely, but spent the whole of the 1st trimester craving sugary carbs - hence a half stone gain. Have consistently gained a pound a week since then - so total gain 21 lbs at 28 weeks. Which will put me at 2.5 stone total.

But I have been pretty damned naughty on the food/exercise front. Have gone from running regularly and eating healthily to doing s*d all while scoffing choc and cakes. I do squeeze in my 5 portions of fruit, but only after I've had my fill of mini eggs, fruit cake, choc brownies, flapjack.................
