Pregnancy

If you had pre-eclampsia when you were pregnant (or any other pregnancy condition) did you get it again in any subsequent pregnancies, or do you get a "clean slate"?

I had PE when pg with my DD who is nearly three.
DH and I have been talking about trying for another, but I wondered if PE was likely in a second pregnancy?

Had E in both my pregancies- first time it was bad, developed HELLP syndrome and DS delivered at 30wks. 2nd time I was under consultant care, with fortnightly consultant appts from 20 weeks and on low-dose aspirin from 6 wks. BP starting rising gradually from 32 wks, hospitalised at 35 weeks, DD born by ECS at 36wks as BP didn't stabilise and I was starting swelling/flashing lights etc. BUT this was all much milder than first time and we made it to a sensible gestation- BTW I was with the same partner, and don't have any other known pre-disposing factors (high BMI, abnormal blood clotting, autoimmune issues, existing hypertension etc.)- and I was tested for these at a pre-conception meeting.

I think the severity and time of onset of first instance PE affects your risk of getting it again- I was quoted a 25% risk of developing it again. I thank the aspirin and excellent monitoring by my obs team for getting us so far second time.

Good luck!

I had it with DS, and not even high blood pressure at all with DD (except for the day before she was born).

Had it from 36 weeks with ds1. Had it worse with ds2 and from about 28 weeks (bp up and down, protein in urine off the scale).

I have just had my booking appointment on saturday. I think it was with a very knowledgeable midwife who said I should get in with the consultant asap to discuss what they are going to do to monitor me. I have got an appointment on friday with consultant's team when I will be 12+4. I was advised by a consultant I saw privately for scans to talk to my consultant about taking baby aspirin.

My pre-eclampsia wasn't typical. DD had IUGR which was evident from the 20 week scan although I showed no other signs of pre-eclampsia until she stopped growing around 36 weeks at which point my bp went up. I am certainly being led to believe I will need v. careful watching this time (gulp).
