anyone troubled by ezcema during pregnancy - and did you use hydrocortisone?

i've got an irritating patch on my hand that won't go away and although, my tube of low-dose hydrocortisone says 'don't use if pregnant' i have been naughtily using a tiny bit now and again. do you think this is likely to affect baby?

I don't think so, I did the same in my pregnancy with no problems, but I would double check with your doctor/a pharmacist if you want to be sure.

I've suffered from ezcema for a few years and have stopped using hydrocortisone cream as I read it can thin your skin - as my ezcema is on my eyelids I decided it was thin enough already! I've been using Aloe Vera cream once a day since then, and have hardly suffered with the ezcema since. I mentioned this at my booking in appointment and the midwife gave me the nod to keep going. So I can't help with the hydrocortisone, but can recommend aloe vera Hope it clears up soon

have used it on body (and bump!) when it gets bad, and this was ok'ed by a dermatologist, but then i have always been told not to use on face.

was told by same dermatologist that it can go a bit mad just after birth and that i had to get over fear of using HC (i went through a wean myself of steroids phase) or I would go crazy.

I was prescribed betnovate (sp) by my doctor for my eczema. He said that it's perfectly safe to use steroids while pregnant and that they actually use steroids to delay labour if you go into labour early! Probably best to visit the doctor anyway because the stuff he gave me was industrial strength compared to the usual hydrocortisone I use and cleared up a particularly bad patch of eczema in less than 10 days. Hope that helps!

I had to use Dermovate whilst pregnant my skin was horrid, there wasn't a flicker with the GP about its suitability in pregnancy

Hi, I get terrible eczema on my feet and it has not improved with pregnancy, nor with the lack of sunshine this summer... (Am currently 35 weeks)

I used to use betnovate (very naughty and got told off as it's so strong!) but haven't wanted to use any steroids etc for a while as my skin got so thin and sensitive.

Anyway, a friend recommended this stuff (skin salvation) and I can totally recommend it too. It really does work if you use it regularly and my eczema usually clears up after a couple of days. Quite expensive but you only need to use a little bit at a time.

Thanks for all these recommendations. It reminded me that when I had ezcema flare ups as a child, I had this weird homeopathic remedy made from beeswax that I used to us.
Anyway, I'm intrigued to try aloe vera, skin salvation and aveeno... i'll give it a go, but won't beat myself up if i resort to a little hydrocortisone now and again. in my experience, steroids never seem to get rid of the problem, they just help you to manage the symptoms.
