Ok, am 39+4 and can no longer sleep on my front, back or sides....

...last night was hellish. Obviously can't sleep on my (enormous) stomach, can't lie on my back because a) it hurts, and b) doesn't it squash something and reduce blood flow to the baby or sommat? And now to add insult to injury, I can't lie on my sides because my hips are getting squashed and ache like a b*stard when I wake up.

What the hell am I supposed to do?! Surely the baby should just do the decent thing and get out now? The thought that this could in theory, go on another 2 weeks, is horrendous.

You poor thing. I am just getting over the most horrendous cold and at 39 wks the only possible way I could sleep (a bit) was to prop myself up on 4 pillows and sleep in a semi sitting position so that might be worth a try. I'm sure you've tried this but have you wedged a whole load of pillows under the bump and between your knees? Gets a bit hot but it does help. I have woken up on my back as well but as long as I got some kip frankly I don't care about blood flow!

Thanks milkmoustache - how horrible having a cold at 39 weeks, and with this humid weather and everything! Hope you're feeling a bit better?

I've tried propping everything up, which is comfy for a while, but if I spend too long on either side my hips just crumble. Have sciatica and SPD which doesn't help, and every time I turn over you can just hear my pelvis cracking. It's lovely.

Might try sleeping sitting up. I can't get any less sleep!

What's your due date?

Maybe there was something in the air last night.

I am 36+5 and spent hours tossing and turning in bed trying to get comfortable.

Sorry, no solutions but I thought I'd show some solidarity

Cheers! Is it nearly a full moon or somthing?

I can't wait to be able to sleep on my stomach again. It's not like I ever really did, I'd just like the option.

Hi Bohemian

I'm 39+5 and not sleeping too well either. One thing I find does help (although I don't have SPD) is sleeping on the sofa sometimes and putting a pillow between my knees. Having total back support from the back of the sofa seems to make everything easier and I can also lie partially on my back and side and reduce the pressure on my hips...hopefully our LOs will decide to make a swift entrance into the world with the full moon coming!

Full moon on Sunday I think...

I love sleeping on my front, can't wait...although breast engorgement will probably mean I can't do it after the birth either!

Full moons usually drag babies out, don't they? I think DS might have been born around a full moon 2 years ago...Will be interesting to see if we all suddenly start going like popcorn!

Oooh, the very same as me. I have SPD so can only sleep in two positions - right side legs together or left side legs together! Now (probably because I am a heifer!) I wake with whatever hip I slept on aching like mad. Try and turn as much as you can during the night, shift your weight slightly onto your bum also after a while, then slightly onto the front of your hip and put a pillow between your legs, and try to move your legs about as much as you can - like semi humping the pillow etc. A bump support (wedge of cheese shape) I think can be pretty good in this senario, I guess you can squish it in more to lever yourself round abit etc. Does that make any sense?

Nope I had to wait 8 months after birth until I could sleep on my front again.

Yes I with you, I,m 39+2. Absolutley dreadful nights sleep or should I say no sleep last night! Couldn't get comfey and my mind was rather active too. Anyway will check out the full moon thing - I,m sure there's something in it. My back hurts like hell today, just too throw that in... Pah!!

Also, sitting is becoming something of an issue Can't sit back on sofa because I feel crushed by the weight of the baby, can't sit forward without developing sore hips from having to splay my legs to make room for the bump...sitting upright is fast losing its appeal.

cyteen - yup, also having the sitting problem. Have tried sitting on birth ball but if I sit legs akimbo, (and lets face it, at this stage there is no other way) my pelvis gets ruined and aches for ages afterwards and I end up hobbling.

Just been invited to a picnic and park session with friends tomorrow, but I can't go, because will have to chase DS all over the place, sit on the floor, and generally be a long way from a loo. Plus getting a bit twitchy about going out in case my waters go!

I used to sleep in the armchair with a blanket at the very end - only way i could even slightly comfy - and then dd would wake up early and do morris dancing in my tummy. I spent many an hour watching the maternity progtammes on Sky and crying every time a baby was born. I must have watched every possible scenario by the time dd made an entrance - though I must admit it cured my fear of childbirth...

I was exactly the same from 38 weeks. It was awful. I kicked dp out of bed every night and had about 8 pillows to try to make myself comfy. I found lying on my side with 2 pillows between my legs helped the hip pain, i had 2 pillows behind me and getting out of bed from my side helped my back.

Once I had dd all the aches and pains went staight away. Hopefully your lo will make an appearance soon xx

Don't think it's been mentioned but sorry if it has and I've missed it!

I used to have this exact same problem and I bought one of those V pillows, lay on my side and put the pillow between my knees and under my bump! Worked great and can be used to feed LO when he/she FINALLY arrives!

I think they normally cost about £20 but you can get cheaper ones on Ebay. Hope this helps a bit, I know how you feel it's horrible isn't it?.
