Are Poundland pg tests any good?

I think that I may be pg and am a serial tester (previous mc x 2) so I don't want to spend a lot of money finding out and then doing the inevitable re-tests for peace of mind. Are the poundland tests any good? Are they easy to use? Have they given you an accurate result? How sensitive are they?

TIA

I used loads of these. They test as little as 10ug (is that what it's called?!)

I got a couple of 'proper' ones too though just to check.

They are 3 little dip stick in a box.

bethoo · 11/08/2008 10:49

I got a pos on a 99p test and I'm now 36 weeks

TryingAgain · 11/08/2008 14:41

i got pos on poundland pt before my period was due. i'd reccomend these. 3 for £1 great

babylove123 · 11/08/2008 14:51

Ebay - great for bargains! Think i got like 25 for £4! Fantastic little things!!!

TryingAgain · 11/08/2008 15:09

i've done 6 tests in 4 weeks and i thought i was obsessive over pts. can't imagine what i'd be like if i got my hands on 25

the reason poundshop pts are so cheap is cuz they're fiddly to use/don't come with pot etc. but if you don't mind the little strip then they the best thing since sliced bread

babylove123 · 11/08/2008 15:12

Ebay are the same! I used to store them in the loft (DP is the only one who can reach) and each month i'd get down 3 (but not until the day before my period was due, then one for the actual day and one for the day after). They do work, i did a test and it was positive, am now 25 weeks pg. Infact it turns out i tested 6 days early because i ovulated very late so they must be good!

Slickbird · 11/08/2008 15:27

I got a cheapo one last time because I wasn't convinced I was (altho it wasn't as cheap as a pound) and I got a positive test from that. Did another branded one, and it was positive too. At the end of the day, the process is the same with them, it's just all branding that gets us spending a fortune as we are all duped into trusting them over cheaper versions of things. (Often these items come from the same factory but are put in different boxes!!) Good luck!!

notcitrus · 11/08/2008 15:51

I got through about 4 boxes of them and they were all accurately negative. They're only cheap because you need your own plastic cup. Hospital tests are just the strips, after all.

It was a Sainsbury's one (£8.99 for 2) that was negative when I must have been 4-5 weeks - although the spare went +ve in under a second when I was 14 weeks...

mummy2000 · 16/08/2008 22:47

Hi. I took two of these poundland tests just today. The first one came up with a faint line which aparantly means i'm pregnant. I then took the other one and that came up with nothing. One of them has to be wrong. It's very confusing. I've used these tests before(i am also a serial tester) and it's never come up with 2 lines before. Anyone else had this happening?

nappyaddict · 16/08/2008 22:54

suresign pregnacy tests are very cheap. if you email [email protected] they will tell you where your nearest stockist is.

SparklyGothKat · 16/08/2008 22:58

mummy2000, how long apart did you take the 2 tests? You may not have had enough HGT the second time

mummy2000 · 16/08/2008 23:03

I only waited about an hour. I got excited with the first test.

SparklyGothKat · 16/08/2008 23:15

mummy2000 wait till the first pee of the day..

mummy2000 · 16/08/2008 23:17

Thanks. I think i'll give it a few days and test again. I never thought about there being much less HGT the second time. I just got caught up in the excitment.

mummy2000 · 18/08/2008 16:10

I took another test. A different brand this time. Came up negative. So the first test might have been wrong although i have heard online about one woman that took a poundland test which said positive then took a top brand one which said negative when she was pregnant. Something about poundland ones being more sensitive.

TinkerBellesMum · 18/08/2008 16:22

Hospitals and GPs only use the £1 variety. Does that help?

Upwind · 18/08/2008 19:45

Poundland tests are just as good as the absurdly expensive ones from boots. I went through loads of the cheapo ones when ttcing and they were always negative. When I first felt nauseous for no reason with this pregnancy I did a poundland test (in the afternoon) and it was positive. I did 4 more tests in the days before AF was due and they were all positive. So 100% accuracy!

Mummy2000, test again in the morning. I expect you'll have a bfp. And keep some urine from your first morning pee for when you want to test again five minutes later

mummy2000 · 08/09/2008 18:10

Hi, thought i'd provide an update. I went to the doctors and have had two pregnancy tests which confirm that i am pregnant. I'm not sure if the first test(poundland) was faulty or picking up on this one. I'll find out once i figure out how far along i am. Bad news is that the doctor is worried that this pregnancy is ectopic due to the amount of pain i am getting in my stomach. Back to the docs tomorrow for bloods then she'll figure out what to do from there. I'm guessing it will involve in an emergency scan.

Stimmy · 02/03/2013 19:37

Hey guys! So here's the thing, due to lack of money I purchased two stick tests from poundland yesterday. My cycle is normally about 28 days but I am at 33 days right now!! So if my calculations are correct I am 5 days late! I took the tests after I bought them at about 5pm and both were negative? I was just wondering if they were faulty and if any one else has had this??
(These are the stick tests not the dipping strip ones)
Thanks

shelley72 · 02/03/2013 20:02

i used the stick tests from poundland (oh how times change) and got a positive in the afternoon on day period was due. maybe test again in the morning stimmy?

starsthatshine · 02/03/2013 21:09

Poundland dip tests were the most reliable by miles for me (positives before the expensive brands) but I did find the stick tests a bit more variable. Would second testing with your 1st wee of the day,the hormones are more concentrated.

cupcake78 · 02/03/2013 21:13

They work but I found the lines to be very faint. So faint it was hard to tell.
