Hi ladies, newbie poster but been reading the boards for a bit for the comfort -this is my first pregnancy. 7.5 weeks and the nausea has hit me. I've had to take 2 days off work because of the constant wave of nausea became unbearable. I'm am going stir crazy sat at home all day so trying to figure out how to cope so I can go back to work on Monday.

If it helps anyone this is what I'm coping on:

  • eating a tiny bit (1slice toast or 2 buttered crackers) every 2hrs helps tick me along.
  • Sipping cold lemonade
-Nesquik choc milk (not worked out if this is a craving yet but I walked a mile to buy some and I last had it when I was 10 -I'm now 30) That all helps the nausea but my energy is now shot due to low calorie intake, I'm constantly asleep.

Anyone have any good tips for coping with nausea at work (esp if your team don't know yet..)

Everyone is different. But what I would say is that, dont believe it'll magically disappear at 12 weeks. I was sick/ill until 18 weeks. Just be prepared for the long haul, and hopefully you will feel better around 12 weeks or so. Good luck, its an awful part of pregnancy xx

yummymango · 22/03/2015 12:05

In both pregnancies I was sick from 6 weeks to 10/11 weeks. It was the longest few weeks ever. Now it's over I feel relatively normal again. Hope yours doesn't last too long.

Hellohellohowareyou · 22/03/2015 12:29

I'm still being sick daily and I'm 25 weeks, was the same when preg with my son. My sister and best friend on the other hand only felt sick for the first few weeks - it really does vary from person to person!

Skiptonlass · 22/03/2015 14:17

I started at 3.5 weeks and was so, so sick for 5 weeks. I mean horribly, constantly sick. It's eased off a bit now (ten weeks) and I have what I'd consider a normal level of morning sickness (very sick in the mornings, nauseous but manageable all day.)

I ended up in hospital on a drip - you can go downhill very fast, so please don't try to tough it out if you're a mess. There's a level of sickness where nothing you can do is going to help and you need medical attention.

Hopefully it won't last too long - my brief glimpse into the world of severe sickness was a real shovk. My heart goes out to ladies who suffer for months on end, it is truly harrowing.

Hi

Hope you're sickness subsides soon op.

Any tips for the first day you wake up feeling sick? I have just found out I am pg so nausea hasn't started yet but I want to be armed and ready!

Luciferbox · 22/03/2015 15:33

Eased around 11 weeks. By 14 weeks I felt normal again.

Treesandbees · 22/03/2015 15:34

1st pg week 6-16 but not completely deliberating! 2nd pg 6-11 weeks but much worse. Went to docs for Cyclizine. Highly recommend it!

1st pg week 6-16 but not completely deliberating! 2nd pg 6-11 weeks but much worse (having a toddler to look after didnt help). Went to docs for Cyclizine. Highly recommend it along with Seabands.

Sophiaslullaby, really feeling your pain! I'm 7 weeks on Tuesday with my first baby and have been feeling constantly sick since 5 and a half weeks.

Hit a real low in the week when I sat in the bath crying wondering why I thought getting pregnant would be a good idea!
Was signed up to a teaching supply agency as in between jobs at the moment but had to tell them to take me off their books for a while as can't face trying to work like this.

Last few days have felt very slightly better, either that or I'm managing it better. Few things I have found that help:

I take a bowl of dry Cheerios to bed and as soon as I wake up nibble on them. Then when I get up I have a proper bowl with milk.

Eating small things regularly, even though I'm not hungry and don't feel like eating. Usually it's the thought of food that is worse than the taste.
Not forcing myself to eat proper evening meals with DH. He sorts his own out as I can't face cooking anyway and I have something small that I think I can manage.

Really hope you feel better soon!

Gruntbaby · 22/03/2015 21:08

1st pregnancy 6 weeks - about 22 weeks
2nd pregnancy 4 weeks - about 22 weeks

But I had hyperemesis, which goes on longer and is much worse (like vomiting up to 20+ times a day, or so nauseous that you can't take anything at all). And like EddieIzzards I got SPD too, perhaps one contributes to the other due to muscle loss during the sickness.

First pregnancy - up to and including the labour.
This time round - still going on at 28 weeks, not hopeful that it will pass now!
Probably not what you want to hear - sorry!

PrimroseEverdeen · 22/03/2015 22:16

Not what you will want to hear, but mine lasted from 6 w to 41+12! I even threw up when I arrived back on the maternity ward after baby was born!

Constantly nauseous, and dizzy when i stand to fast. Does anyone have any suggestions of what can help me? I have tried ginger and cracker and its not helping. This is my 1st pregnancy and I have a week till I see my Dr. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated !!!

AvaAmulet · 22/03/2015 23:30

Mine lasted the entire pregnancy from week 5 onwards. I could barely keep any food or fluids down at all. I had a phase at around 6 months where, for about 6 weeks I just felt sick constantly but wasn't actually sick, then it came back with a vengeance. The midwife only believed I was in labour when I threw up all over her Blush x

I think I got the package deal - hypermesis, metallic taste, spd etc still, I didn't complain - I had a wonderful gift at the end of it all Smile x

SASASI · 22/03/2015 23:58

18 weeks for me...whoever labelled it morning sickness was having a sick joke, I was sick morning noon & night!!

I hadn't felt right for a few days but had an operation earlier in the month so put it down to my medication..wrong!

I soon realised eating helped - plain foods, toast, chips - any white carbs. Ice lollies.

I also discovered the hell that is hormone headaches..

My DS is an absolute joy & we would love a second but honestly the pregnancy ...ugh!

I was signed off work at 6 months with carpel tunnel, I honestly had about 1 week of feeling relatively normal between my sickness subsiding & my fluid going Hayware.

All so very much worth it though OP

DanyStormborn · 23/03/2015 04:23

Started at 6 weeks for me and was almost gone at 12 weeks, totally gone at 14. The nausea was constant and awful but I did sort of get used to the feeling after a couple of weeks making living with it a bit easier.

PurpleDancingTurtle · 23/03/2015 07:58

first pregnancy: nausea and sick about 2-3 times a week until 20 weeks.
second pregnancy: really sick 1-2 a day but only until 12 weeks

Zanashar · 23/03/2015 08:59

Pretty constant nausea from week 7 to 13. All day long. Just smelling food I normally eat would send me running for cover. I survived by eating bread and cheese for most of that time. No veg, meat or fruit. And keep your fluids up Smile

RL20 · 23/03/2015 09:21

Sorry you're feeling like this CosmoGirl!
It can be any length of time at all. I know of a girl who is about 2/3 weeks away from her due date and still occasionally gets bad days. Not what you wanted to hear, I'm sure, but in reality it's what can happen.

I found out I was pregnant by visiting the doctors as I thought I had a kidney infection - lower back and side ache, constant nausea, etc - and found out I was pregnant! I had an inkling I was, but thought I must have an illness on top of that because of how bad I was feeling. He did give me antibiotics that were safe to take, just incase I did have some sort of infection, but nope, the 24/7 nausea carried on up until around 18 weeks.

When I say 24/7 I mean there really was no relief other than for the actual few seconds/minutes when I was being sick (probably around once a day, most days) but it was the nausea more than anything. I took 3 weeks sick from work and some annual leave too. I could of done with more but couldn't afford it. You feel like you're in this sickness haze and you just find your own way through it.

Foods will be trial and error. I went back to the doctors because I was living off Mcvities cheese flavour biscuits, and volvic water lemon and lime flavour, and was convinced I had Hyperemesis. They weren't too concerned though as I was holding down fluids, and in the early days that's the main thing. So like someone else said, fill yourself up with water or whatever fluids you can hold down, and foods such as biscuits, dry toast, bread, even cereal without the milk.
I was recommended Pregnacare tablets by someone and was told they give you some sort of relief but unfortunately not for me. I did carry on taking them for 12 weeks though for the baby's benefit.

Wishing you the best of luck Thanks

PontyGirl · 23/03/2015 09:57

I had hyperemesis. 24 weeks of hell! but then the second part of my pregnancy was lovely Smile

sherbetpips · 23/03/2015 12:14

till about 35 weeks but I never actually vomitted, it was like having a permanent hangover. I was usually okay in the morning, it really hit home after lunch so I made sure I ate in the morning. Lost about 2 stone but the doctor just kept saying babies happy, your healthy stop worrying.
