I like to sleep in the fetal position with my knees up. This seems to cause an ache. Then when I move sometimes get shooting pain low in belly. Not sure if this is similar to what you mean?

It's possible that it's ligament pain (is in on the side?)
I used to get them with my 1st pregnancy but not with my second.

Does the pain go away when you shift position? If so, it's probably nothing to worry about. If it's an ongoing pain, not helped by movement, I'd say call your MW to mention it.

The pain is not in belly it's more into my pelvis, and only hurts when I actually turn over in bed. It does hurt when I get out of bed first thing in the morning but once I have walked to the bathroom it has gone. I have mentioned it to the MW sometime ago and she advised for me to sleep with a pillow between my legs, easier said than done in this heat!

I wouldn't be too concerned if mw isn't. Babies cause all sorts of aches and pains. Then again it depends on how bad it is. If really bad and you worried I would mention it again or see your doctor for pom

i had like a stabbing pain low down a couple of times during the night when turning over - really awful scary pain that took my breath away for a minute or so. It only happened earlier in the pg and I haven't had it for ages and everything is fine. Maybe just ligament pain - but v. uncomfortable!!

aurorec · 10/08/2008 14:44

Ligament pain is very uncomfortable- it feels like ovary pain (or at least where I assume my ovaries are).
As long as it doesn't last that's what it's likely to be- sharp and brief, can be REALLY painful, is what my MW described it as.

Seems to be the classic symptom of ligaments doing their loosening in pregnancy - I've got SPD where the front of my pelvis has gotten way too floppy and lying and turning in bed is by far the worst bit (can't say the being unable to walk 100 yards is great either, but only turning in bed hurts!)

Lying on your side with a pillow between your legs and others to hold you in place may help. To turn over, clench your pelvic floor, hold your tummy in like pulling on tight jeans, put all your weight on your feet and arms, and do it in lots of small shifts. But if it goes when you get up, probably not worth worrying (if it gets worse, get a referral to a physio ASAP!)

I've had these pains for the last week or so (I'm now 31 weeks) But it has worsened and now I can't get dressed standing up as I can't lift my legs. Stairs are a problem too. Gonna discuss with MW Thurs.
I looked around (inc on here) and it's SPD - Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction. It's mainly where the tail and hip bones and the main ligament down there that's holding everything up is softening too much.
Check out www.baby-pregnancy-ultrasound-3d-4d.co.uk/Pregnancy-SPD.htm to read some more about it and if you're still concerned tell your GP or MW
Pillow between the legs didn't help me either-kept me more awake as keeping your legs together is more likely to help, inc when you turn over.
I have to get my partner to help get me up sometimes!

I have been having similar pains at 16.5 weeks. I read somewhere that pains are common as your uterus is stretching and moving all the time.
I remember getting them with ds at the end of pg too.
