Moving House while pregnant...what happens with midwife?!

Hi, I am a first timer and am only 11 weeks, but hopelessly clueless! I am moving house on the 23rd and have already had my booking appt, have a scan on the 12th and another midwife appt on 19th for blood results.

I am moving to another council area so will not fall under the same health authority...I guess my question is, what should I be doing?! I really dont know! I know the midwife told me I should be seen when I am 16 weeks but i cant register at a GP in the new area until I have actually moved, by which time I will be 14 weeks, then I have to see the nurse for a health check before I am completely registered, then I will be referred to the midwife team.

I just dont know...and all the stress of moving, with MAJOR hormone surges which are turning me into a crazy banshee and overwhelming tiredness I just feel like crying. I really ccan't do all this!

Hi, no real advice but at least this will bump for you. Firstly, try and calm down - stress is not good for you! Secondly are you sure your care cannot continue as is? check with your midwife and/or GPsurgery again. If you do need to change ask their advice, you can't be the first pregnant lady to move!! Similalry, do you know which GP you will be able to register with - ask their advice. I'm sure it will all work out, they're not going to withhold care just because you're not fully registered - goodness me you can go to another doctor if you're on holiday or something can't you? Just take it step by step.

it'll be fine, it happens all the time. just go along to your new gp and register and make an appt with the midwife. they'll request your notes from your previous gp. i moved at 34 weeks pg and it all went really smoothly, they're well set up for it

Emma Calm down! I've moved twice while pregnant - once when 8 months pg, once when 5 months (this time). You've got your scan and blood results appt booked before you move which is great so you don't have to worry about either of those. tbh after your 12 week scan not a lot happens until your next scan so you're probably fine.

What you can do now is choose a GP practice to register with - I always go for a big training practice as that has a mixture of old lags with lots of experience and newly qualified (ie up to date) doctors working there. Go to www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk and look down the left side for 'find a local service'.

When you've picked one, once you've moved just pitch up there as soon as you can and fill in the forms and arrange a new patient appt as soon as you can. Then you can arrange a GP or midwife appt once you've had that. Once you've filled in the forms they can register you within about 24 hours normally. Really, it is just a case of getting on with it! Don't worry even if you miss an antenatal appt you can have one at 17 weeks or 18 weeks and it won't make a blind bit of difference!

Hi

Completely new to this site, so apologies if I am repeating earlier question.

I'm due with my first baby early September and we desperately need to move to a 2 bed home before that. But when? Do I stay in Hackney and with my GP and Homerton Hospital for as long as I can or should we move now and become part of a new community and borough?

We will most likely be moving to Woolwich, SE London for financial/space reasons, so not sure if I would be able to continue with Homerton from there. And have no clue about hospitals in the area

Any ideas/help welcome. Thank you

Don't worry about it at all, you can move hospital at any point in pregnancy, even at end. Many hospitals allow you to self refer, choose the one you want to change to, and send the form off... You should be able to continue to have care at a further away hospital but it might mean that you have to see hospital midwifes.

I moved house last week at 28.5 weeks and it was fineee! Really don't get worried about it, especially at only 11 weeks you've got ages to go!
