I can't believe I'm pregnant - anyone else felt like this?

Am 11+1, my morning sickness has been gone for over a week now (huzzah!) and am not showing yet (although have expanded a bit) I'm going through a phase where I just can't believe I'm pregnant! I'm sure this must be really common plus I've got my dating scan next week so will be ok after that but would appreciate some reassurance from others who have had this feeling.

i did four pregnancy tests!! i am 6 weeks and besides feeling totally knackered does rather feel like we made the whole thing up. plus no sickness (so far fingers crossed etc etc). feels like a very long wait until the scan...

I am 34 weeks tomorrow and got my first +ve test on the 13th January - having been trying for a year and had a first appointment with a fertility clinic the previous Thursday (literally just the initial chat, nothing more).

I took 3 more tests over the next 4 days, just in case it was a chemical pregnancy, and then spent the next 12 weeks in disbelief, so you are not alone in your thoughts.
I just could not believe that my body had joined the ranks of the holy grail - I always looked at pregnant women but never really thought I would one of them!

I went into 12 week scan feeling that nothing would be there or it was ectopic or a whole host of things.

Just go with it. Stay as healthy and relaxed as you can, enjoy it (I found weeks 20 - 27 especially nice as I was showing but not huge) as once you get past 30 weeks, you're willing labour to come soon!! Be glad you'll be in your 3rd trimester in the winter - it's a killer in this heat.
Don't worry too much about next year - just get used to things little by little.

Sorry for long post - I just really relate to your thoughts and can tell you I'm loving being pregnant but it'll go soooo fast, so enjoy. Once you've had your scan, go and buy some cute little baby clothes - then reality will hit.

Hahaha I carried my positive pregnancy test around in my handbag and peeked at it on the train! I just could not believe I could actually be pregnant.

However I am now looking at a very plump, very real four month old!!

All the best and enjoy motherhood, it is great fun.

Niceychops · 08/08/2008 12:38

So funny that so many people have been in the same boat as me, knowing they were pregnant and just not quite believibg it was real! I remember my boss saying something about me going on maternity leave and thinking 'my god! Maternity leave! Me!'

I just constantly felt 'but I don't FEEL like someone's mother! I used to dance on tables for feck's sake, my mother never did that!'

But now Bubs is here (4 months tomorrow) I feel like I can't remember what life was like without her (and other cliches!!)

evs34 me too. scan feels an age away. i've heard you can get early scans tho - viability scans... have u heard anything about this??

babyinbelly · 08/08/2008 15:16

I feel just the same BABY IGNORAMUS. 10w and feel like I am making the whole thing up! Despite having had 3 positive tests, horrendous morning sickness and tiredness and all the other usual symptoms. dp is most unhelpful and cant understand why I would feel like that. Looking forward to scan to confirm its true. Just hoping they don't turn round and say no baby!!!
You are not alone!

commanderchaos · 08/08/2008 18:56

I felt the same with both mine (DS is 3 in Sept, DD is two months tomorrow). To be honest, it still hasn't worn off, and I still get a shock when I have a note from the nursery inviting me to a parents' evening. I mean, FGS, who would take me seriously as a mother? It's such a grown up thing to be.

meep · 08/08/2008 20:23

lollipopmother - it's my second but still just as exciting and feels even more unreal because I've got a one year old to run after and I'm still getting used to that !

And don't worry about crying during scans - at my first one my tummy was wobbling so much from trying to stop the tears that she couldn't get a decent picture! And I cried n Thursday - just because I know my wee bean is alive (had a rocky start - so it was even more emotional!)

Enjoy your scan - and blub away!

Boobz · 08/08/2008 20:23

Yep - me too - totally convinced I won't see anything at my scan a week on Monday, despite planning my home birth already! I see Meep and Emma on here from the Due March 09 thread too - looks like we're all at it - doubting our little beans!

We shall see. My boobs can't hurt this much for nothing, surely?

meep · 08/08/2008 20:33

Hi Boobz! The March 09 thread moves so fast - I can hardly keep up!

Our scan was a 7 week one - so teeny and tiny but with a little regular blip of a heartbeat!

You very first scan is amazing - it all becomes very real after that! You will gaze at the blurry picture ALL the time! What am I saying - I will be doing exactly the same when the current bean reaches 12 weeks!

And - if you are lucky enough to get a 20 week scan (or have to pay for one like we did) - that is truly amazing. It was the first time I realised that the feelings in my tummy were from dd kicking me - because I got one and actually saw her do it on screen!

Am with you on the sore boobs!

HUCK · 09/08/2008 13:48

god i am not alone. i know its ealry days for me as either4 or 5 weeks but me and hub feel the same as many of you. we cant wait for the scan to see the baby. soooooooo scared but soooooooo excited. got to wait till 6th october god its going to take forever

lollipopmother · 09/08/2008 14:01

The first 12w will be the longest wait of your life, I didn't think I could bare another day of waiting! Then the pressure is off for a few weeks until you realised you're waiting for the 20w scan! Once I got the 20w over with it flew by.

Everyone says that 30w onwards is when you really want to get the baby out, but I am feeling brilliant, better than I have all pregnancy, and apart from being extremely excited about seeing my baby I don't want her 'out' yet, but then I suppose I have been really lucky in as much as she's not causing me any grief! It's a bit like waiting for Xmas actually!!

babyphat · 09/08/2008 20:54

lollipop i think you are actually me! excited but it still all seems unreal. due 15th september and have started maternity leave but it still hasn't fully sunk in

misspollysdolly · 09/08/2008 21:09

LOL at this thread - brought back the memories of feeling like I was about to be exposed as a fraud! I took a pregnancy test at 16 weeks, even though I had been feeling like absolute and utter tripe-on-toast for the past 8 weeks or so. Once the MS stopped - but no kicking had started,- I started to doubt I was ever pregnant!!! Think DH thought I was totally barmy! Didn't even have any scans til 20 weeks, hadn't felt any kicks and just remember thinking as I walked through the radiographer's door - 'Well there'd better be a bloody baby in there, otherwise I'm going to look really silly now...'!! Needless to say, DS was well and truly in there - he's just turned three!

LittleGreenBean · 11/08/2008 09:01

So glad that everyone else out there feels the same way! I'm 31 weeks now, but still cannot believe that I?m going to have a baby.

DP is obviously feeling this even more so; especially as I keep having to remind him that this could be the reason why I?m acting far more crazily and irrationally than usual - bless him for being so dense but I keep having to remind him that there are certain hormones that accompany pregnancy...

Boobz · 11/08/2008 12:02

Have told far too many people now (keeping secrets was never my forte) so there better be a jumping bean in there or else I will feel very silly indeed. Scan is a week today....
