Pregnancy 'intuition'/'premonitions/dreams: any been proved right?

Hello ladies, I've just joined mumsnet as a first time mum-to-be (due in July). I'm quite interested in the paranormal and I was wondering whether any other mumsnetters had any experience of strange dreams, feelings or (dare I say it) 'psychic experiences' being proved correct with regards to the babies they were expecting? My friend's mom was convinced she was expecting a second girl until she says she heard a boy's voice say to her one day "look I'm a boy OK, get used to it." Funny but somewhat chilling, in a way...! For the first three months of my pregnancy I dreamt nearly every night that I had a baby boy, then a couple of nights ago I had a very vivid dream about attending another scan and the sonographer telling me without a doubt I was having a girl. Do you think these are just natural subconscious thoughts, or is there any intuition involved (bearig in mind that in other dreams I've also dreamt I gave birth to a rat and a pygmy)? My mum has a 'funny feeling' it's a girl and her 'funny feelings' are often proved right - she's pretty good at picking racehores for one thing (I'm not bothered either way as far as sex goes, as it happens). Have any of you 'just known' what you were having and proved right? Not necessarily by legends about the way you were carrying, how sick you were or the old ring-on-the-string trick, but more by feminine intuition or even premonitions? Any other strange stories gratefully accepted!

I had an extremely vivid dream that I had given birth to a beaver in the latter stages of pregnancy. I was having terrible trouble trying to put a disposable nappy on it as it's legs just weren't at the right angle...

Turned out I wasn't psychic as I had 2 boys who, so far, don't show many beaverish tendencies and have legs at normalangles, though one of them does have a bendy foot.

But they're very interested in logs and dams, right Scummy?

I was absolutely certain my first baby was going to be a boy - I don't know why, but I would have gambled thousands on it. I went into labour at 36 weeks and gave birth 4 hours later, and when I saw him I remember thinking, 'I was expecting you (no pun intended)Pickford (his womb name), but not quite this soon.'! I really felt I knew him already - not in an intense bonding way, but I just had such a strong sense of him already.

With my second child I was so keen to have a girl I convinced myself rationaly it would be another boy to prepare myself, but deep down I did think it would be a girl. In fact when I went into labour I was tempted to write a note for my husband just to tell him what my hunch was - and to seal it and leave it until after the birth. I wish I had done as it is so nice to be right - and especially in this case.

50% of the baby sex premonitions have been proved right

I was so convinced that I was having a boy that we didn't really think about girls names. There was no real reason for this feeling, it was just a hunch, plus people kept telling me I looked like I was having a boy (all up front etc.). We didn't want to find out the sex, but my midwife had told me that there is a theory that boys have slower heart rates than girls, between 130 -140 bpm for a boy, 140 - 150 for a girl (they slow down a bit towards the end of the pregnancy). Another midwife I saw told me this was codswallop. However, my midwife listened to the heartbeat, and told me she thought it was a girl, then she felt my tummy and guessed it would be about 7 pounds 6 ounces. Two weeks later and lo and behold! - we had a little girl weighing in at 7 pounds 6 ounces!. Unfortunatley she didn't have a name for two weeks due to my 'hunch' during pregnancy! I think I will go with the 'heartbeat' theory again next time, as it is not a definite thing, but maybe gives you just an idea of what you will have!

I was convinced I was having a girl, a brown-eyed girl, and used to sing along with Van Morrison's song of the same name for most of my pregnancy.

DH however was utterly convinced we were having a boy (there were no female granchildren in his family at that time but 5 boys) and over the months, his conviction swayed me to the extent that, even though privately I thought about my brown-eyed girl, when she was delivered, I almost said, 'But we're having a boy'.

That's mine and dd2's song as well, SueW. In fact I took dd to see Van Morrison at the Dome in Brighton last September just so she could hear the real thing for herself.

Emski, don't rely too much on the heartbeat clue. I was totally sure it was a boy, and the midwife let me into the heartbeat theory too - and she predicted a boy too.

Lo and behold a girl appeared. Poor love wore lots of boy t-shirts for the first few months, and we had a terror of a time trying to remember the girls' names we'd considered.

I loved really knowing I was having a boy after our scans. I felt it really helped me connect with the baby and he had his name for many months before he was born. Also he had some very cute clothes. I hate surprises though!

In the early weeks of my pregnancy, I saw an acupuncturist to help with the morning sickness, and he took six different pulses in my wrists, and correctly predicted a boy!

I had no particular ideas regarding the sex of my baby-then one day suddenly, I knew for sure. Later, I read something in a book discussing when a foetus becomes 'ensouled', which I took to mean when the baby's spirit moves into the little body. I wonder if that's what I was picking up on? Quite spooky really. There's a link on Jonathan Cainer's website to a page about pre-birth experiences, if anyone's interested.

CAM, how strange Our DD's are about the same age too, IIRC.

If I ever hear of VM coming anywhere near here, I might take her along. In the meantime, I have S Club United to look forward (?) to in April
