Big baby...possibly a c-section!!

Last week i had a scan to check if the placenta had moved which it had. (im 34 weeks pg) Also the sonographer told me that the baby is above average (Did expect that as my DD was a 9lb 1oz baby). i found in my notes later on the day that this baby is breech olique (it always had been head down since 2 weeks ago) which they never mentioned it to me (poss could its too early to worry about that).

i just seen my midwife today and she said that its looking that i could poss have a c-section and not a natural birth (i had a emergency c-section with my DD). i was hoping for a natural birth. i even asked if this baby does head down will i able have a natural birth?..she said 50/50 cos of being a big baby.

ive got myself a ball to bounce on - how long for?? and also im doing the position too....is it worth doing them???

not at all VS

birth trauma is totally underrated as is the impact it can have for years

anyway, i need to go and get dressed

but i wish mslucy and ghosty all the best and am sorry for any upset this thread has caused,

Oblomov, generally, they don't.
On the Ina May Gaskins 'farm' the CS rate is so low it is almost negligible, the babies aren't all small, and the mothers aren't all large.

A large proportion of CS's in our country are due to things that could have been fine without any intervention, and the right birth coaching.

Oblomov · 07/08/2008 09:48

Oh I know that VS. Most cs's could be avoided.
But some people do produce big babies. And of those, some face difficulties of fitting through/being delivered, becsue they are big, surely.
Few though, admittedly.

Now you've gone and made me cry you old bags ....
Sorry for being prickly ...
Silly of me really, I just still get worked up on this subject 8 and 4 bloody years later.

Yes, very few.
Unfortunately, because we are so CS happy in this country there is too much weight given to the big baby=CS theory, I was told it myself as part of the wonderful refusal of VBAC from my consultant with DS1.

I know this doesn't help MsLucy's feelings, (I know that CS's are pretty safe but they still scare the balls off me) but it may help ease Biglip's concerns, which, on this thread, were my top priority.

(The CS rate on with I.M.G is 1.8% btw, I just checked, and I would imagine quite a large part of that percentage will be due to placental issues)

Ghosty, I have to go get my fat arse on my exercise bike, I promised Sheiky

If you want to start a thread about birth trauma ,I'd be happy to discuss it with you, also maybe MsLucy would like to come and speak about it?

mslucy · 07/08/2008 10:18

yes I do think I suffered from birth trauma - I think that is a fair assumption.

I really wasn't freaked out by the idea of giving birth and embraced the idea of having a natural birth.

I just didn't enjoy the reality of a long and painful labour.

I am pg after quite a long wait and think my traumatic birth may have affected my ability to conceive - I saw a hypnotherapist who agreed that this might be the case.

Obviously there were other factors at work - eg stress, my age etc - but I don't think the horrible birth helped. I have almost no real memory of it and think I have pushed it into my subconscious mind where it is festering away.

A birth trauma thread would be very useful indeed.
