Why oh why? And why do some people get it and others not?

I am nine weeks today and feel AWFUL, can't stop being sick and have splitting headache and sore throat have been vomiting so much, think I am also dehydrated, Don't want to take any drugs so can't see the point in speaking to midwife really. Just think if I knew why it happened I might not feel so wretched. Oh, and some tips to alleviate it would be nice too.

And when might it end? Was sick till 5 months with ds, and to 3 months with dd before that, PLEASE tell me it may go at 3 months, argh!

dinny - I think it's just us who suffer. I hope so anyway, imagine being an elephant and throwing up down your trunk every morning for three years or whatever!

littlemy - yes it's a fab job and i am thrilled! Glad you're getting on ok - I keep lurking on April 09 and am v excited to see it's filling up nicely

LittleMyDancingForJoy · 05/08/2008 21:32

Yes, i have friends in there now, it's lovely. I came back from hols and there they all were!
Consultant appointment has come through with my nice consultant, so fingers crossed this baby hangs on in there. Feeling sick enough for twins.....

Have just googled, and it seems it is just humans who have to go through this. Oh to be a penguin.

It was definately true for me that a girl made me more sick than a boy. Wih dd I was sick constantly, but with ds I had a few days of nausea at most, so I would say it might be a reaction to the hormones, but who knows?

LittleMyDancingForJoy · 05/08/2008 21:42

Not sure I will dinny - DS went 17 days overdue and had to be induced, so I'd be surprised if this one was early! We tried EVERYTHING to get him out.

Still, you never know....

dinny · 05/08/2008 21:43

ha, I was opposite - dd was 5 weeks early, was convinced ds would be too and he was a day late....you never can tell!

OP posts:
LittleMyDancingForJoy · 05/08/2008 21:46

I'm desperate not to be induced this time, so fingers crossed. Have been induced twice now and it's no fun at all.

I had reflexology with ds (mw just did it at my 40w app) and am CONVINCED it stated labour. something to bear in mind for you...

I think it's blood sugar. I always felt sick if I got hungry in the first trimester, plus of course first thing in the morning you haven't eaten for hours.

dinny · 06/08/2008 09:22

mine is always worse as the day wears on rather than morning for some reason!

LittleMyDancingForJoy · 06/08/2008 10:09

Tried reflexology.....

also pineapple

long walks

hot curries

castor oil

even sex....

DS is the most stubborn child in the world, though, so I guess it's not that surprising

I am 6 weeks pregnant and came on here to see why I just feel....well like CRAP....This is my third successful pregnancy, and I was sick with all of them. My first was 4 months sick, second 6 months...hope this is not a trend. Does anyone get palpitations too? I cannot stand it. I also cannot stand those "I love being pregnant" women....I am so grateful for my babies, but I despise the whole process...I rather be in labor than feel like this...Take care of yourself ladies....you are not alone!

pamelat · 05/09/2009 09:03

Am 4 weeks pregnant with 2nd baby and dreading morning sickness, or all day sickness as it should be called.

With DD I was sick from 5 weeks until about 15 weeks and then the sickness passed but I just had fainting spells. Doctor said a similar thing to me, something about the hardship on my own baby is "good" because it means that the baby is taking what it needs.

What about all those other people where the baby gets what it needs but they can stand up for more than 10 minutes without fainting?

Sorry for the mini rant, am very excited to be pregnant, just apprehensive what the next few weeks will bring.

pamelat · 05/09/2009 09:04

Oops. Sorry that was meant to say hardship on my own BODY (NOT baby).

Completely different meaning

You poor thing .I had it quite bad with dds 1 and 3 I ended up weighing a stone less than when I conceived each time as I was sick right up until labour .I was so pleased to be able to eat that in the weeks afterwards I piled on 2 stone before loosing a stone and getting back to normal.
Everything set me off mainly smells I'd put my deodorant on holding my breath then run out of the room.
I tried all sorts and nothing helped the strange thing was with dd2 I was only a little sick between 6 and 12 weeks then fine.

shootfromthehip · 05/09/2009 09:27

My Doc told me that the HGH can act like and irritant and form an almost allergic type reaction in the stomach of some pregnant ladies- hence the throwing up. Apparently this only happens in a small amount of cases and can lead to very severe hyperemesis. I did feel like I was allergic to being pregnant both times and shall not be having another one! It's horrendous.

Good luck with everything.

LadyoftheBathtub · 05/09/2009 09:37

But the theory that MS makes you have less food doesn't work for me - I've had terrible MS for the last 6 weeks and I've eaten what feels like 3x the normal amount of food! And not because I'm hungry or fancy food - I just have to stuff my face constantly in order not to throw up. Interestingly though I've only put on a few pounds and most of that must be bump, as I already have quite a big one. Where's it all going?

Also find the thyroid theory interesting as I cannot bear anything to touch my throat - if it does I instantly want to vom.
