I borrowed one from a friend when I was 11 weeks, couldn't hear a thing with it, scared myself half to death and determined never to pick it up again.

After the midwife found a perfectly health heartbeat within about 6 seconds at my 14week appointment, I braved trying mine again and now at 15 weeks I can usually find a heartbeat within about 10mins. But it is still touch and go some days.

Midwife said if you could hear a sort of short squealie noise from the doppler it was the sound of the baby moving. I can sometimes hear this before I find a heart beat.

I can't remember how far along I was when I first heard a heartbeat with mine, but I'm now 36 weeks, and actually, it's quite nice listening to baby hiccup on the machine these days...!

I have an angel sounds one and its great. With both pregnancues I've waited till after 16 weeks. It does take some finding sometimes but the place you generally find heart eat is very low down near pelvis and u av tk angle the doppler like upwards and press on quite firm xx

Doctors have warned that home foetal heart monitors “are potentially dangerous to the mother and baby's health”

@Bezalelle with all due respect, only if you’re an idiot and use it rather than seeking medical help! That article is about a women who had reduced movements and didn’t seek help. Many of us use the Dopplers for reassurance in the early stages of pregnancy; I’ve had 3 miscarriages and have found it immensely helpful. As soon as I start feeling baby move I will stop using it.
