Embarrasing piles question during birth!

I discovered that i have rather bad ones the other night in the bath
I was just wondering, as one appears to be right in the middle, perinium), would it affect if i needed to be cut. I hope i won't anyway and i know they go to the side but can't help fretting!
Also, how used are midwives to seeing this sort of thing?

No idea to the answer to your cutting question, but as to the other, I should think if it is something that appears between your legs, your M/W will have seen it thousands of times before. Sorry I can't really help more.

I don't think the piles will be a problem during the birth as if you do need to be cut (an episiotomy) then I think they cut diagonally to the side to avoid the perineum area. Really don't worry because although the piles will feel huge to you, I'm sure the midwife will not be at all concerned about them. During the birth you can use a flannel to press onto the perineum to help relieve the pressure, which may be good especially if you have pre-existing piles. Ask your midwife for more info!

Hi there,

Yep - as Lonelymum says midwives have seen piles a thousand times before. If you need a cut (hopefully not)they do cut to the side and not straight down. Also, the chances are that once you've given birth they'll gradually go - until you get pregnant again.

I had piles both times towards end of pregnancy and for a few months afterwards (they go eventually).

No they don't present a problem and yes midwifes are accustomed to seeing them.

I had a labial varicosity - its no problem and goes afterwards.

I had horrific piles from about 35 weeks pregnant. Couldnt sit down for a week. I tour during the delivery and quite high on gas and air I remember saying to the midwife to excuse my huge piles and 'would she mind poking them in and stitching it back up' to which she replies 'they are pretty big but no'
Unfortunetly I still have them after 9 months but at least they arent painful.
I think its common for pregnant women to have them and lots of midwifes have seen them.
