Really stupid question about packing hospital bag...

Do I really need to buy, wash and pack newborn size clothes? Or will the baby cope with 0-3 month clothes rolled up?

I know I can't guarantee it won't be a 5 lb midget, but given that everyone seems to think I need to take about half a dozen vests and sleepsuits into hospital, if I pack newborn and 0-3, the bag will be overwhelmed and there won't be any room for thrilling things like maternity pads! I'm doing my best not to pack a 3 piece luggage set here...

I am in awe of all your big babies!

My ds was 5lb 1oz. Poor dh had to hot foot it to Tesco to buy up the early baby packs as the newborn stuff was huge. We were in for 6 days (with him being such a tiddler) and dh simply took stuff home to wash overnight. The vests and sleepsuits dry so quickly you really won't need piles of them.

NCT sales or the supermarkets are the best bet to get stuff cheap.

Hope this helps.

The mothercare multipacks are £7ish for simple white vests and sleepsuits, I think there were 7 vests in the pack we bought, 3 sleepsuits. Went for the upto 10lbs size, having been given some 10 to 14lbs size ones by SIL, so covered if the baby is bigger than expected. They didn't have any newborn sized stuff a theirs was just under 11lbs!! Also been given a pram suit for 6months - OMG my baby is never gonna be that big! How will I carry it!
