Am only 22 weeks pg with #2 and get times when i can hardly breath. On friday just getting up from the sofa to get a drink left me breathless and my heart was racing and felt like i couldnt fill my lungs enough. I know everything moves up etc but this baby is so low it feels like hes going to fall out so i know its not him doing it. Is it worth mentioning to MW or will she just fob me off with 'normal pregnancy' malarky? I got this toward end of last pg.

If anything worries you its worth asking the MW - just to put your mind at ease. I know breathlessness is a common symptom of pregnancy but if you are uncomfortable in any way you should speak to the MW. She may say its all normal but then at least you know!

Could it be your hormones rather than your lungs being constricted? See here for example. In my second trimester I occasionally felt as though my lungs were filling with something like carbon dioxide rather than oxygen, which made me feel a bit odd at times. It wore off pretty quickly though and hasn't come back (32 weeks today ).

Definitely tell your midwife about these symptoms. It may be that you are anaemic and needing iron. Give her a call or go and see your GP.

I had exactly this in my second trimester, thought I was going mad as it didn't seem late enough for the baby to be pressing on anything, he just wasn't big enough, and was transverse!

I asked the midwife and she thought it was panic attacks as usual, as everything I've had this pregnancy has been fobbed off as a panic attack, including thrush!

I couldn't do anything! I had to take a ten minute rest if I went up the stairs.

My baby started dropping at about 36 weeks though, and since then, I have felt a million times better, so I hope it will be the same for you.

I found if I got on my hands and knees the pressure was off my lungs and I could at least get a couple of good breaths.

Horrible though! You have my sympathies.

I'd give your MW a call and ask for your bloods to be done, it sounds as though you could be aneamic. I had been feeling like this for ast 3wks to the point of not being able to move for 2days. Turns out my iron was really low. Started taking iron tabs and 3days later feel like a different person!!

Hope you get it sorted soon, it is awful isn't it?
