Awful SPD and Rib flare, what are my chances of getting induced early?

I'm 33 weeks and 3 days pregnant and in crippling pain with SPD, I can hardly walk, to add to this my ribs ache constantly to the point where the pain reduces me to tears on a daily basis. I just don't feel like I can go on like this for another 6 or more weeks.

My midwife is less than sympathetic, I don't think it's intentional but I don't feel like she really understands how much pain I'm in, I've only seen her 4 times in this pregnancy so haven't really had the chance to build a bond with her, I'm due to see her in 2 weeks so I'm going to ask if there's any chance at all of being induced a couple of weeks early.

Do you think they'll take me seriously?

are you getting any help with your SPD? any physio? maternity supports/ belts etc.. any pain killers?

unfortuntaly, spd and rib flare are part and parcel, although unpleasant , of pregnancy.

you can ask to be induced early, but early induction, especially if your body is not ready and your cervix is not 'ripe' can take days.. and there is also the chance of a c.section if you do not go into labour or your labour does not progress.

I've got a maternity support belt which I've been wearing religiously, it does help with the SPD but tends to push everything upwards which seems to make my ribs more painful. I'm not keen on taking pain killers anyway but both the Doctor and midwife have just advised to take paracetamol.

i was in same situation - reflexology really helped me get through last few weeks of pg - especially as went to 42 weeks. cranial osteopath might also help ease it.

Thanks Ladysanders, nobody's suggested Reflexology or cranial osteopathy before but I'll look into it.

ask for a referral to obstetric physio and have a look at www.pelvicpartnership.org

I'm in norfolk so not too far. I've left a message for a local lady to call me back so I'll hopefully speak to her tomorrow.

I've been on crutches since around 20-odd weeks but I see a really good chiropractor who has kept me more or less mobile (well able to walk around the house at least!!) She released the round ligaments and the diaphragm which helped alot. She also gave me this exercise: - either laying down on your side or sitting up straight (hips higher than knees - sit with a pillow under your bum) - put a cushion or pillow between your knees and squeeze your knees together, only as hard as you can cope with mind, don't hurt yourself. This helps to settle the pubic symphasis into a more aligned position apparently. Also an ice pack on the pubic symphasis helps a bit as does a pregnancy pillow between the knees/ legs when laying down on your side - keeps the pelvis straight. SPD is definitely not fun!

You have my sympathies, you really do. I had it bad, SPD and rib flare in my last pregnancy and it was really miserable. Felt like I had a hot poker in my side all the time and couldn't get comfy with that and the SPD pain . I'm hoping this time round it won't be so bad, but not holding my breath. Hope you get relief one way or another soon. It will pass, and before you know it, your bambino will be 10 months old and getting into everything! (((Hugs to you)))
