Just curious, really. Anyone had their baby during the day?

It because we are like animals.

Most animals create a birth space like pulling old blankets behind a couch or somewhere private and dark.

Like animals we labour better if we dont feel exposed and in a dark calm environment.

If a dogs labour is disturbed they can actually stop their labour and resume when comfortable. I guess its natures way to protect the newborns arrival.

Thats why most peoples labours slow down when they arrive at hospital because of the bright lights, feeling exposed with internals etc...

Darker is calmer and you really notice teh difference with how relaxed you are. My first labour was in a brightly lit room with mvs yapping around me so loudly. 2nd labour was in hospital again but in my birth plan I asked mv's not to talk loudly and leave me be but if they needed to speak then they were to speak to my dh on my behalf. I had all lights off but just left the bathroom light on which gave a nice glow. I also asked for minimum internals. My labour was much more relaxing and I felt at ease in the hospital. It was still just as painful but I felt better about the whole experience.

Sorry, gone off original question

INduced labour: first does of prostin at 6am, 2nd dose about 3pm, DS arrived at about 9pm.

thelittlestbadger · 17/07/2008 15:59

DD was born at 12.15pm on a Friday. Contractions actually started at about 2am on the Thursday morning and just carried on through the day getting gradually more intense. I'd read the theory about daytime though and thought I had a lot longer to go than I actually had...

Romy7 · 17/07/2008 15:59

babytime - nope. cs first time so that doesn't count, but the other two i got out of bed first thing in the morning and my waters broke...

Jas · 17/07/2008 16:01

None of my labours started at night, either.
2pm for my night born dd
7am for morning born dd
lunchtime for my evening boy.

Depends what you mean by night I suppose. If you count day as being something like 7am to 7pm, i.e. 12 hours, then technically you should have a 50/50 chance of having a baby at night, all things being equal. If day is more like 6am to 9pm, then more babies should be born during the day.

We could do with someone doing statistics on people's kids on this thread to see if its statistically significant.
However, everyone's probably too busy having fun!!!

I was born 12.02pm
Ds was born 3.50am!

biglips · 20/07/2008 02:25

its because your body is at most relaxed whilst ya in bed.

Slickbird · 20/07/2008 13:29

My friend who's a midwife said it is to do with hormones. The same reason that when you breastfeed a newborn it does all is full-on feeding in the evening and nighttime because that is the best time to trigger the necessary hormones for production. I believe it's the same for starting labour. Both my last labours started in the middle of the night. And then went on for two days, but that's another thread....!

Slickbird · 20/07/2008 13:33

PS - Speaking of statistics and this is the closest I can get on it, but that same midwife friend said that the labour wards are infinitely busier at night-time with women coming in, than through the day, so there must be something in it.

DanJARMouse · 20/07/2008 13:35

DD1 2.48am
DD2 12.15am
DS 11.14am

reban · 20/07/2008 16:40

dd1 went into labour 8am born 6.26pm
ds1 went into labour 3.10am born 7.42am
ds2 went into labour at 11am born 2pm

I have heard that we are more likely to go onto labour at night when we are asleep because the body is more relaxed then. Dont know what happended with my third then as i was making a bacon sandwich at the time!
