can anyone recommend a private clinic where i can get an early scan? I'm about seven weeks pregnant, and would like a scan in the next week or two. I know it is still very early but i have no symptoms at all, unlike previous pregnancies, and feel uneasy. my NHS scan isn't until 14 weeks and i'm not sure i want to wait that long. i don't know if i'm being paranoid but i'm worried something is wrong as this is so different to the last times.

Hi - not sure how far you want to travel but I went here and they sonographer was really nice. It cost 90 pounds and we got about 4 photos included too (not that you could see much at 8 weeks!)

early scan costs £100 - the scanners are state of the art, and the doctors are too. all funds go back into their research.

and a nuchal scan plus blood test costs £150 - they spend/have a lot more time looking at the scan, you can see the 4 chambers of the heart, the 2 sides of the brain, how the blood is passing between you and your baby through the placenta - it is really incredible. the sonographer also asked if we wanted to know the sex of the baby at 12 weeks - we said no, but if you are interested and the baby is in the right position, you might get an idea.

we went for both scans here, as well as having the (still very good, but not as clear and certainly not as much time to discuss what they were seeing) 12 week scan at the hospital - for reassurance. if you can afford it, you are buying a certain amount of either peace of mind, or you are paying to be told bad news in as discreet surroundings as possible (not in a crappy waiting room with a box of tissues and a miscarriage associateion leaflet)

good luck

I second the recommendation of the Fetal Medicine Centre. It has an international reputation. The Professor who leads it invented the nuchal scan. If you have a nuchal scan they give you so much more information about the baby than the NHS every could. They are not for profit - all the money goes back into their ground breaking research.

You could just go to your doctor and ask? My friend who had had a previous very early miscarriage did this and her doctor sent her for a scan, no questions asked. Another friend is having an early scan because she'd had a little spotting. No harm in asking and you might not have to pay.

Depends what you want but St George's in Tooting have a walk-in scan service first thing in the morning that will do reassurance scans for free. They are very very short (like a minute) but they'll just check the heartbeat and that your ovaries look okay and give you a photo. I would recommend them as they really put my mind at rest after a tiny bleed at six weeks

Obviously if you want a longer scan and lots of pics then you'd be better off going for a private scan, but there isn't too much to see at this stage anyway!

Good luck

Like Lucile's friend, I got an early scan when pg with DS1 because I had no symptoms. Just went to the GP and asked. That was at Chelsea and Westminster. If you're concerned, there should be no need to pay for a private one. Good luck.

This thread is quite old, but I still want to share the offer I found and used for those who still look up this reference. We went to the www.babyscanclinic.com in Harley Street and had a growth scan which was on offer. As you would expect from a Harley Street Clinic the service wsa good. The cool thing is you can buy the scan online and surprise your partner with the gift, which is what I did :)

ThreeWheelsGood · 29/11/2012 12:34

I had one at the Whittington (NHS) - you should call and ask your nearest local early pregnancy unit.

MightBeMad · 29/11/2012 13:28

FMC is amazing!! I'd definitely third that recommendation.

Khaterine · 29/11/2012 15:29

Oh, I see the link to the baby scan clinic is not active, here it is again www.babyscanclinic.com , hope this works

Saltytomato · 29/11/2012 21:36

I went to the London ultrasound centre which was really good. It was £165 for a growth scan and nuchal scan, we got one at 14 weeks to find out the gender too!

bumpitybumpbump · 30/11/2012 12:27

Fetal Medicine Centre is amazing and will do an early viability scan which is what you'll be having if you're 7 weeks now. it confirms that the pregnancy is viable i.e. not an empty egg sac and sometimes you can detect a heartbeat. prices are on their website - it's £100.
