that was usually tolietries like baby bath, nappies, wipes bottles etc. loads of stuff never got used, or i bought too many of one size nappy.

this time (4th baby), so far all i have added is one small pack of nappies, a cup and a pack of napisan.

think i'll be adding napisan everyweek to build up a stock of the stuff. 20 boxes should last how long....?

am planning on washables again, the disposables are for the first few days when i'm disorganised.

milton/napisan can wreck the elastic in the nappies cos of chemicals in them. nappy fresh is an environmentally friendly one so it doesn't have any nasty chemicals that wreck your nappies.

i am using muslin squares, prefolds and terries.

I have just found the blurb that stopped me using oxygen bleaches like napisan.

"Don?t use bleach or whitening agents. The will breakdown the fibres of fabrics and destroy the waterproof membrane on your nappy covers."

"You should only use detergents that are free of dyes, enzymes, perfumes, whiteners and brighteners. Using detergents containing these ingredients will cause damage to your nappy including elastic failure and leaking."

Apparently you should soak nappies in water with a few drops of grapefruit seed extract although when i was first researching nappies I was told not to use oils like tea tree or lavender cos the oil can make the nappies repel water and to be careful with acidic liquids such as lemon juice and vinegar, as they will change the pH of the wash water, and if the nappies are left too acidic, it may cause both the fibres of your nappies to break down over time, and may also reduce the normal pH of your child's skin in the diaper area, which may lead to redness, rashes, etc. I'm not really sure if GSE is an oil are acidic though tbh. I've never used it cos I'm not sure where you can buy it from.

this site says no to GSE. Tbh i just soak mine in water and have never had a problem and the sunshine tends to get most of the stains out.

my fave one im sending you is a diddy diaper - so cute and so small!

thisisyesterday · 10/07/2008 20:09

doesn't matter if nappies are stained surely? no-one is going to see them lol, and stains come out eventually.
ds2 was born end of october last year and I had a line of nappies drying outside in November! lol the midwives loved it.
didn't last long though, I have to admit. sunshine through a window works as well though
