Funny turns in the second trimester

Is it normal to have funny turns in the 2nd trimester? I don't remember them from my first pregnancy. I am nearly 18 weeks.

Each time it is a little different. Sometimes I suddenly feel v hot and faint, sometimes I suddenly feel very nauseated for a few mins and then it passes, sometimes my heart starts thumping madly or I suddenly feel so exhausted I could collapse. Each time it usually passes quickly. It does not seem to be related to being hungry or thirtsy.

For example just now I had eaten my lunch and was queuing with a colleague for coffee. Out of the blue my legs suddenly felt really heavy as if they were dragging me down to the floor. I felt like I was looking through tunnel vision and became very hot. I sat down, took a few deep breaths and had some water. Within two mins I felt mainly OK although I am still slightly wobbly and a tiny bit nauseated.

Should I get checked out or is this all normal?

I had this with my second pg - resulted in me collapsing twice. deffo go to the GP's and get it checked out but don't panic. GP told me that baby was lying on something important (can't remember what it was right now!) that was cutting off blood to my brain - sounds worse than it was!
Next time it happens lower yourself to a seated position and put your head down, it does stave it off.

Thanks Dorris. I feel like its top early for the baby to be heavy enough to cut off circulation but maybe that is it. It is really horrible, I am now all nervous about my commute in case I come over all funny again.

Fainting and feeling faint is common in the second trimester. Some people do feel hot and 'funny' before they go. Sit down or lie down if poss. Bloods tends to pool more in your legs when you are standing up, especially when you are pregnant so sitting down will get the blood flowing back to your brain. Palpitations are also common during pregnancy and being aware of your heart beating but it is usually nothing to worry about, still it wouldn't do you any harm to check with the midwife/GP the symptoms you are describing.

am there as well artichokes

have bought some vit and iron supplements in case it's that, but will also mention it to mw next week

carry bot of water and bag of sweets with you at all times and if you're feeling dodgy REST (as far as possible). I would recommend the v nice aniseed balls I picked up from Lincs at the weekend

Hello artichokes. I have had similar and I am 19 weeks. I mentioned it to the obstetrician and she didn't seemed overly fussed - said hormone surges between 18 and 22 weeks can do funny things (mind you, this was her response for comedy swollen ankles/feet).

Hi artichokes, I am also in my 2nd trimester and have been feeling like I could pass out at times, getting very hot and sometimes feel like my heart is missing a beat (latter one I had before pregnancy), I mentioned this to my GP who said it can be common as your blood pressure tends to drop in the second trimester what with all the hormones and also your blood vessels will be dilated in order to accomodate all the extra blood you will be carrying. Hope you start feeling better soon. x

Its nice to know I am not alone even though it is crap that you are all suffering too.

I think mine might be blood ressure related. I had pre-eclampsia last time so have a home BP monitor. I tested tonight and my bottom reading, which throughout this pregnanc has been around 75 is now 55. That is lower than I have ever seen it. Do you think that could be the cause. My top reading is 130 which is what it has been throughout.

Sounds like it could be. Can you give your mw a ring?
