Choice of hospital

I am twelve weeks tomorrow. I have had delays booking for materity services as I had only just moved to the area when I got my bfp. I immediately made an appointment to register with GP but there was a considerable delay (even though I told them I was pg) and I finally had my first ante natal booking in appt last Saturday.

I was asked which hospital I would like to be referred to. I very definitely did not want to go to my most local hospital - it performs badly in league tables for cleanliness etc but more importantly I have a friend who had her baby there and had a very bad experience. I know this could probably happen anywhere but it has really put me off this hospital. (I don't want to name it on here as I appreciate this is just one experience and I wouldn't want to worry others.)

Anyway the GP said this was fine and we discussed alternatives. My first choice she said was probably not going to be available - v.v. popular teaching hospital and I was booking in too late (although not entirely my fault). However she said I should get my second choice. I have now had my letter and I have been referred to my local hospital.

Does anyone know if there is anything I can do? I am concerned about delays as I am at the crucial time for scan but am v.v.v.v worried about this hospital because of my friend's experience.

Sorry for length of post but any suggestions would be welcomed.

Zensbaby You will find people have good and bad experiences in all hospitals. I would name the hospital on here - other mothers to be do regularly when they want to compare.

On the other hand, have you considered a community hospital/birth centre as an alternative - are there any nearby? You tend to get the best midwives working there as they have more independence so therefore tend to be more experienced as there is a lot of competition for those jobs. Or a homebirth - avoiding the hospitals altogether?

odd - I booked for one hospital and then at 37 weeks told them i had changed my mind - no one even questioned it just got a letter from chosen one saying when are you due? 5 would ring chosen hospital direct
