Does use of Ventolin inhaler inhibit labour?

I am 37 weeks pg with twins. I have caught a nasty cold/chest from DS2. I am taking paracetamol, but last night needed to use DH's Ventolin inhaler as my chest was so tight and I was finding it difficult to breathe. I have used it again this afternoon (2 puffs) and it has worked wonders.
I know that salbutamol can inhibit labour, am I reducing my chances of spontaneous labour or is the dose too low to have such an effect? If any of you are asthmatic have you been advised to avoid using your Ventolin inhaler at the end of pregnancy?

It is fine to take ventolin inhaler - it will not affect labour as it goes to your lungs. Intravenous turbutoline suppresses uterine activity, salbutamol (ventolin) isn't that good at doing the same.
The only thing I would say is that you should not use medication prescribed for anyone else. See your GP and get your own. You should be seen if your chest is as tight as that Bubble.

Agree with mears. I use a 'reliever' for asthma and I checked each time I was pregnant and was told that it was quite safe. However, I guess it's something that you must be prescribed, so I should check with your GP whether you should have your own or something else for the nasty cough you have.

I remember I too had a bad cough at the time I went into labour and the breathing in of the gas and air irritated it a bit and when I tried to B/F I kept coughing and the twins kept 'popping off'!! It was all quite treatable but I should try and get it fixed before you have them as it'll be one less thing to worry about

Too true TinyGang. A couple of days ago I was begging to be induced but I'm now relieved that I'm not coping with two newborns and feeling like this. I've made an appt with the GP but I suspect this is viral and therefore will just have to run it's course. It's just so crappy dealing with the late stages of twin pg and this. I also worry about the effect this constant coughing is having on the on the babies - sory to hear you had a bad cough when yours were delivered, but thanks for the reassurance

It was all a while ago now (twins are now 3 yrs! OMG, where did that go!) We've had many a hurdle to jump since then, but look after yourself, cos your wellbeing is a very important part of all this
