2nd pregnancy, progressing well and normally. However, 29 wk check, midwife says measuring a bit small. Got to go back in 3 weeks rather than 6 for next check., to see whether growing ok or not. Playing on my mind... Anyone else in same situation?

I had that, and it was just the way that baby was lying.
he was actually rather massive in fact, so it was nothing to worry about lol.

I think that the tape measure thing is generally regarded as quite inaccurate, so i wouldn't be overly concerned

I had a small bump checkup that turned out to be a very big baby when they sent me for an extra scan. Bump is still there and small baby now toddler and a lively 2 yr old 85th percentile on height

4madboys · 05/07/2008 22:21

i always had small bump and for the first two pregnancies they gave me extra scans to check the size, they estimated 6lb and the babies were 8lb 7oz and 9lb 3oz so NOT small, with ds3 they tried to say the same again, small bump it will be a small, baby, i said have you read my notes? ds3 was 9lb 5oz, and ds4 my bump measured small all through pregnancy, he was 10lb 13oz AND i had loads of fluid, god knows where it all fitted in, i am only 5 foot 2.

CarofromWton · 05/07/2008 22:25

Don't think they really can tell the weight of the baby by scan. I was warned that DD1 would be born between 4 and 5 lb, but she actually came 2 weeks early weighing a healthy 6 lb 10 - no health problems at all. She's now 9 years old with the physique of a 13 year old! At the time I was pregnant with her I was very fit and only showed a small bump even at the end - maybe your abdominal muscles are strong?

minouminou · 05/07/2008 22:27

are you very fit?
(this isn't a chat-up line or owt!)
if you are, your abs tend to hold the bump in a bit more
i was measuring small for dates, had a scan at 35 weeks, all well, DS 7.5 lbs.
i think calling you in in 3 weeks means she's not mega-concerned, but is just keeping an eye out (as it were)

Essie3 · 05/07/2008 23:02

Without being too personal, are you and your husband big people? I had a small bump, and my baby was under-size towards the end of pregnancy, but I'm small (5'3, small frame) and so is DH (skinny, lightweight!) and when DS was born he was 6.1, which seems to be early baby weight according to the clothes...but he was overdue by a few days! Nobody was concerned - small parents = small baby (although not always).

hey i was told at 33weeks that i measured small so was sent for scans alot over the last few weeks..at 35 weeks she weighed 4lb and said id be looking at 6lb baby ...
they can give you the exact weight when you go for a scan well thats here in newzealand dont know how it works over there i see my mw every week sometimes more..

im now due in 2weeks as am havn ecs..

goodluck

ask for a scan if you are worryed that should asure yuou abit more as them doing fundal measurements is very diffrent and they often get that wrong

CarofromWton · 06/07/2008 10:33

Hate to disagree but scans can also get the weight wrong.

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2008 10:53

Did she seem worried?
I had a couple of measurements where DS was small for weeks, or whatever the term is, they told me not to worry but kept an eye on it. DS turned out to be an average 7lb13!

MakemineaGandT · 06/07/2008 10:58

I had that with both my sons. Even whilst in labour they commented on how small my bump was and how the baby was going to be tiny.

DS1 was 8lbs 9oz

DS2 was 9lbs 7oz

(I'm slim by the way so it's not that I was "hiding" the baby or anything...)

Don't worry. I'm sure you have nothing to be concerned about,

4madboys · 06/07/2008 11:37

same here makemine, the midwifes were amazed when i delivered ds3 and then again when i had ds4, i am 5 foot2 and a size ten generally, but somehow hide these massive babies, two nine pounds plus and then ds4 at almost ELEVEN pounds.

it may well be that you have good tummy muscles, both the physio and the midwife commented on how good my tummy muscles were after having ds4, quite often your tummy muscles can seperate when you are preg, esp with a big baby, but the physio was amazed at how good mine were, she asked me what exercise etc i did to keep them in shape..........ummmmmm nowt but i run around after three young boys, i do go swimming when i can but thats about it.

good luck zippie, bet your back here in ten weeks telling us about your big baby

peanutbutterkid · 06/07/2008 11:44

I wouldn't worry, but go thru the formalities of letting them measure & monitor you extra just in case.

Essie3 · 06/07/2008 17:32

Christ, 4madboys - I'm the same size and height as you. And just nipping out for a mega pack of extra-strong condoms now!

keevamum · 06/07/2008 17:37

My bump was barely there with DD1, I had weekly scans and they always said she would be small. She wasn't and definitely isn't. A healthy 8lb er. 2nd pregnancy though I was much much bigger. I found it quite annoying actually that no one ever realised I was pregnant. No seats were ever given up for me!!

4madboys · 06/07/2008 17:37

lol

zippie · 08/07/2008 14:01

THANKS for all your responses! Feeling reassured by you all. In answer to some of your questions, yes, I am quite small and quite fit - 5'3", size 10. Was very fit before first baby and everybody said how compact my bump was. DS1 was 6lb 15oz, week overdue.

Not had time to get back to quite same fitness since DD1 but yes, generally active. And yes, people keep commenting how my bump is "tidy" this time.

I'll see what MW says in couple of weeks but feeling much calmer than I was before I posted. Thanks again!
