You really really shouldn't. It can cause foetal distress, not to mention make you have an extremely upset stomach.

i wouldn't. baby is in there for a reason.

it can cause foetal distress, awful diarrhoea for you - i really wouldnt.

try sex, raspberry leaf tea, nipple stimulation, or mw will sweep around 40 weeks

I did with DD2, refused point blank with DS!

Severe upset tummy, which can cause dehydration.

I had meconium in my waters, so thankfully labour was quick, but there were mentions of CS at one point if I couldnt get her out quick.

I was 39+4, and I didnt go into labout until 40+4

are you even overdue??

clayre · 05/07/2008 18:42

my sisters friend did this and it started her labour it all went wrong and she ended up in a coma and cant have any more kids, i think it was because the baby went into distress and they had to get the baby out as quick as possible then she started bleeding heavily, she had to have 2 operations in the few days after birth, the dr's told her it may have been the caster oil that sent the baby into distress, she wasnt quite full term but wanted to have the baby before xmas, sadly she was in a coma on xmas day

ok, my dh is right im not even going there. baby can stay as long as it wants. im not risking the life of my baby for anything.

Castor oil will not cause meconium, fetal distress low apgars or cause you to go into a coma!

There is always this scaremongering put up here whenever castor oil is mentioned, but there is no proof of any of it. Have a look at the Cochrane review of available evidence here

There is also no real evidence that it does any more than make you feel sick. I think that the meconium myth is due to women post dates taking castor oil to start things off, but post dates in itself will increase the risk of meconium.
